Flicker free rollers in Premiere 6.5?
I'm finishing a super8 shortfilm and I'm applying a rolling title at the end. However, I'm having problems with the output. On my PC monitor the rolling title flickers a bit and I don't know how to get rid of it.
I've marked the "Flicker removal" under video options and I've made the roller in the new Title Designer.
Any suggestions?

This may sound a bit crazy, but iMovie has a really easy, smooth, though not entirely versatile titling system, if you have it. I've done projects interchanging between the two programs, and also started a few projects in Premiere, had major data-error problems and moved it all to iMovie and sailed to the end without any problems or serious restrictions. It's worth trying to do some titles in iMovie and importing them to Premiere as an AVI file, perhaps.
Good luck!

Yeah, I've used iMovie too when I studied film, but now I'm working on a PC running Windows 2000. Can't use iMovie there...

I've read that the title scroll flicker problem is a problem that has its roots in video interlacing. Your video signal is going back and forth between odd and even fields at a rate of 60ips. If your title happens to be scrolling up at a rate that visually interacts with the fields cycling from upper to lower field, you get the nasty flickering. In other words, a scan line image is moving upwards field by field, while the electron gun in the CRT is going back and forth between fields. Because of this certain lines in the text image are appearing and disappearing at 60ips, causing the flickering. Did that make any sense??? This is a problem inherent to interlaced video and has nothing to do with Premiere vs iMovie. A simple method to get rid of the flickering is to change the speed at which the title scrolls. There was an article on dv.com a while ago explaining this problem and giving a solution. There was some mathematical equation to use to get the best results. I just use trial and error.

Hi Kei!
This was exactly what I was suspecting. I've also read similar articles. Strange Adobe or any of the other video editing program companies don't look closer into this. It's a thing lots of people are having trouble with.
I'll see if I can find the dv.com article. Thanks!

Mattias, how on earth do I make the text scroll an even number of lines per frame? There are 576 lines per frame and there are 25 frames per second. This should mean 23.04 lines per frame... or?
Anyone got a mathematic formula for me?

sorry, but 23.04 is not an even number. :-) 0, 2, 4, 6 and so on are. a good speed that meets the criteria is 4 lines/frame, which means it should take 144 frames, or 5 seconds and 19 frames for the text to scroll one page. 2 lines/frame works well for a slower scroll and 6 great for a faster one. if you want to scroll even faster you have to add motion blur or it won't look smooth in any case.awand wrote:Mattias, how on earth do I make the text scroll an even number of lines per frame?
