I purchased a Workprinter2 last May and am finally starting to use it. I have a Sony TRV900 that I'm using to do the capture into the PC. The problem is that the Sony only stays on for a few minutes before it goes into the standby mode. I suppose I could load a cassette in it and record on LP, but isn't there an easier way without having to physically run tape through the camera?
Thanks
Dave

The following is from http://www.alternaware.com (Dodcap web site) - note point 3, it may be of help.Dave Anderson wrote:I purchased a Workprinter2 last May and am finally starting to use it. 1) Power on your video camera and connect it to your computer
2) If you are using a digital video camera, plug in the AC power connector before performing video capture
3) Remove the tape from your video camera, or leave open the tape drawer to prevent your camera from entering standby mode during a capture session.
Re: Camera standby with WorkPrinter2
Really? Sony camcorders will stay on indefinitely in standby mode as long as no tape is inserted. If a tape is inserted then it will shut off in 5 minutes unless you are recording. Maybe they changed it on the newer ones.Dave Anderson wrote:I purchased a Workprinter2 last May and am finally starting to use it. I have a Sony TRV900 that I'm using to do the capture into the PC. Hehe.. Same did I do when I first got my WorkPrinter. I actually ended up calling Panasonic Norway to ask them how to avoid standby mode. They asked, have you tried without a tape? ... I hadn't!

I feel really bad. I noticed in a past email or post from you that you were having this problem. I actually sat down to email you about it, but got distracted (by my screaming one-year-old son) and forgot. So in a way, we can blame this problem on my son. I will give him a spanking just as soon as I get home this evening.

If it was some good looking girl that was to blame, I might have to agree on the spanking issuedigvid wrote:Dave -

You wouldn't first record to tape, and then put THAT onto computer would you? You just need the camera to stay on so you can telecine your print using the media jack on your Sony. So, would it be so bad to just get a long tape and use it over and over again as your "workprinter tape"? The quality of the tape will degrade but you won't be using it anyway. That's not so bad.

The WorkPrinter can not record to tape as it is designed to transfer each frame to the hard drive of your computer, frame by frame, using the stop motion capture function of either Premier or DodCap for PCs or Capturemate for the Mac. For more information on exactly how the WorkPrinter functions, please see:Ultrazero wrote:You wouldn't first record to tape, and then put THAT onto computer would you?
