using PK59 with K40 without mailers

Post by Evan Kubota »

I have 4 carts of non-prepaid K40 left. Can I buy PK59s and use them to get the pre-paid processing, or are the cartridges marked differently when purchased together with mailers?

The mailers have now been discontinued. You might be able to find some old stock somewhere and they should still be honoured by Kodak. But I think they still cost more than Wal-Mart.

Yes, the reason I posted this was because there was an auction for 10 PK59s that was at $10. If they were still honored, that's a good deal for 10 carts worth of processing. It ended at $33, though.

Oh its still a good deal if your shipping non processed paid carts to swizerland instead of dwaynes. Also, here in Canada that wallmart thing don't work, Ive tried!

I'm sure they'll still be honoured for some time to come anyway.

Afterall, they don't make super8 sound film anymore, but you can still process the ones you still have..

Do you think mailers from the mid-80s would be honored? These were PK59s, but not the most recent packaging style. Don't the mailers themselves have expiration dates, precisely to prevent Kodak from having to deal with a massive backlog?

Hi - I have used PK59 mailers from the early 80's with no problems. They have no expiration date, unlike recent mailers.

Thanks for the heads-up, Roy. If I could have bought them for $10, I would have gone with that, but at $3.50 each based on the ending price, I'd rather pay a dollar or two more and get Wal-Mart's slightly faster service.

Point taken, but through walmart, they may only be going to Dwaynes. With mailers they could go to switzerland or more then likely to Dwaynes if mailed to a US address.

Many people here seem to prefer Switzerland over Dwaynes, so at least for some its worth it. That would be one reason for these over the walmart solution. Though I do agree it would take longer and since your already in the states, I probably would just go the walmart route anyway.

But like I said, I tried walmart here in Canada and was told that is not a service offered by them. Also, it would cost quite a bit of yankee dollors to process this film if no process has already been paid and no mailers were used. $3.50usd is a steal for us up here with our weak dollor and are expensive to heat igloos :D

As far as I know, Kodak has always honored the old mailers. I've never had a problem.

There's a post somewhere with the details. I ordered some film and mailers from Adorama a few weeks ago and the mailers are still on back order, so I'm presuming that they've already been discontinued.
