..I've wondered a few features to add in the new prototype to enhance it!
A row of LED´s or a meter that shows the amount of powert left in the batteries would be cool.

I saw that you have 2 LED´s on it already, does any of them show when the battery is fully charged? That would be a cool feature too. :)

Count me in for 2 battery packs.
I think I have two dead ones, I'll be happy to send them to you.
PM for details!

Maybe people here should first use search archive here or google the internet somewhat on Beaulieu battery replacements. It is all reinventing wheels or kicking dead horses. It is about the most pusblished subject considering beaulieux cameras.

Maybe Uppsala should mind his own business instead of forcing people into discussion on deals they don't want. Or is he personally going to make up for the lost profits of others.

As far as I know Bjorn is already selling several types of Beaulieu batteries solutions. (But being a pro he is not publishing his techniques here) Also mentioned price levels are just good for some coffee-money when people work for a living on these items.

BTW it would been much smarter to conform to Beaulieu standard for the dummy battery.
BTW These can be had at eBay at some Euro 20-30
Kind regards,

André

If all of the old technicians don't pass along their secrets, the ability to service and maintain our valuable technology will evaporate when they retire. ;)

It is your assumption that these technicians are old.

If they pass their skill too soon or unpaid they will be forced to retire early.

Maybe you want your job or business done by somebody else

I have seen a lot of "home-made" solutions but none that looked this good. And Building my own battery pack is of course possible but I just don´t have the time, hence the suggestion to buy one. I never searched because I´m not interested in duct-tape-solutions.

Whoa! Calm down man, that almost sounds like a threat!

Mind my own business? Forcing people? A deal he doesen´t want?
Sounds to me you are reading another thread or something. I honestly have no idea where you got your weird ideas from :?

AJ wrote:

Yes he is, I was informed by Bjorn that he could supply 2 types of batteries, brand new (for a looot of money) and recelled Beaulieu battery packs (a bit cheaper, but still very expensive).

This "new" solution sure seems both cheaper and better than just a recelled battery pack. I bet it is even with shipping, but the price is not all, I just liked the look of these packs. :)
And it seems easier to change the batteries when they are dead than from a tight small battery pack.

AJ wrote:

I know. So? By the way I thought the price was for only the materials, I haven´t seen a "real" price yet. And I´m not mentioning Bjorns prices because it would seem wrong, don´t you agree?

AJ wrote:

Why? If these dummy batteries work they are good enough for me.
Really? 20 - 30 Euro? I searched Ebay when I thought he just had to have a old battery pack and I found 0, none, not one, no batteries at all.

You make me sound like I´m an asshole, and just because I have one doesen´t mean I am one.

And It´s not like Bjorn is losing a huge deal in this, as I mentioned earlier he still has a 4008 ZM II and a R16 to clean and repair, so he is not losing all his "coffe money". And I even suggested they hook up on a deal, if he can deliver the packs in perfect shape proffesional look, working in perfect condition Bjorn could benefit from this by selling them for a higher price, I bet people are ready to pay (hell I would have paid more for one of these from Bjorn than just for a "regular" recelled battery pack).

It´s not like I´m backstabbing him, where did you get that idea, didn´t you read this thread? :?:

Count to ten and calm down man. :)

AAAHH, I´M BLIND!! I CAN`T SEE!!

Those are the duct-tape-solutions I was thinking about! Ha, ha!

Seriously, if they they work and won´t end up in a fashion show they are all good for personal use, right? At least they were cheap!

Remind me never to order battery packs from you Gianni..... :)
No offence, thanks for sharing your Frankenstein.... :)

Sure! Are you interested?

If you do it for 60% of what I charge, and do it as good as I would do it, we have a deal!

I´ll send films your way, you return them on DVD and I´ll pay you some and charge more from my clients. Deal?

Well, of course you get nothing (=0).

That is how it is when you loose your job or commisioned business as other people start doing yours for less or for fun while investing nothing in research/education or paying taxes and such.

Yeah, Bjorn is the quiet profit maker on this forum. No advertising no contributions and still getting business adn a saint status.

For some strange reason people want to keep their given quotes to themselves. Are they feeling as if they got a special low quote?

The prices are as mystic as the work performed. Search on collimation subjects. When I respond in a thread with citing a Wittner and Bjorn estimate on a overhaul of Beaulieu 4008. Bjorn thinks he can call my a liar while he seems to not have kept a copy of the mail. While I still have it in my archive. But alas.

BTW one standard is obviously better for everybody
BTW look for contact blocks/ dummy batteries (and beaulieu) on eBay. Cannot take too long.
Kind regards,

André

Yep, I have recommended him in other forums too. I read so much good about him that I "like him" without knowing him. Weird. He also has a mail-link from my website, helping him get a few clients is just fun.

I think people keep their quotes because every quote is based on info about their camera, what shape it is in, what is wrong with it and so on. People might say "hey, but I read about a guy who got their repair cheaper", wich wouldn´t benefit anyone.

OK, so the price on battery packs should be the same, but what if someone has a lot of camera-work for him and they actually get a lower price for say a battery pack to make it a "good deal"? Then spreading this price wouldn´t be so right. :)

I remember reading about it, but I don´t remember details.
I guess if he did delete the mail and really had forgotten about it, it isn´t so strange. It is human to forget, and divine to forgive.

Who am I kidding, I don´t believe in religions!
No offence all you religious guys, I don´t want a flame war about religion again! 8)

OK. I searched for "Beaulieu batteries", and "4008 battery pack" and such. I did find a 2008 battery pack.

Anyway, if I can get this battery pack-deal from GeneratriX I wont need to search, at least not this time. :) 8)

Cool; now sounds a lot better, I'm not feeling guilty anymore!
Uppsala BildTeknik wrote: Yep, thats the Bjorn I´m talking about, the "master of Beaulieu-repairs".
Yes; I've seen good posts referencing him!
Uppsala BildTeknik wrote: You should Email him some pictures and give him a price for 5 or 10 battery packs or so, I wouldn´t be surprised if you guys could make some sort of business arrangement. You could make some money and he could sell them and make some money too, and he wouldn´t need to put down any time to building the battery packs.
I've never talked him by now; but I'll drop an eMail or P.M. in a few hours. I enjoy this kind of works, so, I'll be happy building the units if he likes it. Of course I could charge little money for unit, and let the sales of the batchs in hands of Bjorn, if he's interested. BTW: thanks in advance for referencing me! ...Thanks to Christoph too! ;)
gianni1 wrote: The tubes fit my Pentax Spotmatic, but a bit long for the Beaulieu. Comparing the threads, the Beaulieu battery threads have half the travel of the macro tube, 4mm vs 2mm. I bought the tube set (of three) at a local camera fair for a few pounds. Don't know what the 1.0 or 0.75 is measuring...
Nice data to accounting, "gianni1"; Pentax Spotmatic uses "M42x1" threads, and some russian clone units are with "M42x0.75". BTW: I'm a really great fanatic of Asahi Pentax Spotmatic, I think Super-Takumar lenses are greaters in the japanese history. I've owned my own Spotmatic years ago. Just save them in good shape, by the way if sometime I could buy the Asahi set from you!
Uppsala BildTeknik wrote: A row of LED´s or a meter that shows the amount of powert left in the batteries would be cool.
Yeap! Sounds good! Could be killer if done with square LEDs, but I think could add a lot of work; so, rounded LEDs again! But yes, I'll add a little row of 5 units, to show steps of 20% on the charge state.
Uppsala BildTeknik wrote: I saw that you have 2 LED´s on it already, does any of them show when the battery is fully charged? That would be a cool feature too.
Actually, two LEDs solid-shinning are indication of: "Fully Charged Pack". Only upper LED solid-shinning means: "Charging".

But take this as just a feature on my own prototype. I'll change it by the LED's row in the next built.

Sorry man; just a little joke! ;) But hey!; your work probes that we could use M42x1 threaded tubes if necessary! Thanks a lot!!!

Sure Andre; I've started in such way, then I've designed my own way, and I have now:

1) Three choices of capacity: 950mA/H; 1400mA/H; 2000mA/H.
2) Two kinds of cells: Rechargeable Ni-Cad; Rechargeable Ni-Mh.
3) You can use Non-Rechargeable cells too if needed(for emergencies!)
4) The battery pack is charged outside the Beaulieu camera, so, no un-needed overheat in the cam.
5) LED indicators for the battery charge state.
6) Pretty compact and ruggedized solution.
7) 2 Mts. rubber coated cable with professional Cannon styles connections, in the interlock itself, the dumb battery, and the battery pack.
Separated connection for charger; with protected polarity.

aj wrote: Maybe Uppsala should mind his own business instead of forcing people into discussion on deals they don't want. Or is he personally going to make up for the lost profits of others.
Andre!; don't be so hard with Uppsala!; What is the bad that he makes to others suggesting to me the built of some packs if some people needs them? If you are talking about Bjorn, I could be happy selling him the units cheaper, even in orders of reduced quantities.
aj wrote: As far as I know Bjorn is already selling several types of Beaulieu batteries solutions.
Sure, and it is fine.
aj wrote: (But being a pro he is not publishing his techniques here)
And I'm not doing so! :) ...Just a few external pictures to share my experiences with the people.
aj wrote: Also mentioned price levels are just good for some coffee-money when people work for a living on these items.
I don't know what do you means on these phrase. I've mentioned only my own costs for the stuff needed to built the complete setup (excluding the original Beaulieu pack), and I've not mentioned a price for my work at all. I've spent eight/nine hours to built my own setup. Do your own math: how much could you charge by eight hours of your time to get it all ready to work? Same amount as for the required materials maybe?
aj wrote: BTW it would been much smarter to conform to Beaulieu standard for the dummy battery.

Sure, if you like it. My idea was: "Do the hard job once, and get it easier later". I'll never need again anymore those weird hard to find cells, and mine there'll be charged by hours or days, fully operative, with or without a socket for recharging it soon.

What is wrong with this picture? I don't know. I've not drilled a hole in the cam. If I like it, I could buy again an original battery later, to use the cam by shorter periods without cable... But you can bet it: I'll not buy another original pack for myself! ;)
aj wrote: That is how it is when you loose your job or commisioned business as other people start doing yours for less or for fun and possibly without investing in research/education or paying taxes and such.
You are completely wrong, man. You loose your job or bussiness when you don't have enough flexibility to get your professional life and actions quickly adapted to the new times and challenges.

75 years ago, japanese products were tilt as "bad quality", today they are one of powerfulest industries in the planet. A few years ago, chinese products were tilt by common people as "cheap trash", today, many of the chinese products are simply so good (or almost so good) as the competence, because they have evolved in the time. Add to this: they are a lot cheap! ...Okay, they have even a lot of trash products too; but you can catch the idea.

Let's says that the whole process could take ten years more. You'll be surprised! Can you recall these phrase from "Jurassic Park"? ;)

Just a footnote, the Frankenstein pack I made was a emergency or temporary setup because I could'nt find enough NiMH AAA's with the soldering tabs. The real plan is to stuff six AAA's into the larger macro tube.

Oh, I noticed that I implanted some silicon gel into the base of the plug to seal the backside of the PCB.
