I just thought I would share some info with my fellow Mac converts. You can get Final Cut HD legally for under $500.00 USD in the USA. Not the Student or Express version but a full commercial license. What you do is order the Final Cut 2.0 from these guys for $135.00 + 5 dollars shipping>

Then you ger the Upgrade version for $348.00 from these guys with free fedex ground>>>

The upgrade works from version 1.0 and higher so get it all for $490.00 including shipping in USA.

Yes, but if you ever plan to use it for a commercial purpose you will violate the license. Also if you plan to ever upgrade or transfer the license you may be restricted with the student version. Motion requires a better graphic card then the one included in the Mac Mini so I decided to just buy FCPHD by it self.

Mr. Apathy wrote:the student version is the full version of the production suite, including FCP, DVD studio pro and Motion all for $500. the upgrade path kinda seem like a ripoff if you are elegible for the student discount. or know someone who is that can get it for you.

A couple of things, its widely expected that there will be an update to FCP HD At NAB (april 18th) so if you can hold out for a couple weeks, it may be in your interest to do so.
Regarding the Academic version, There are no "academic" upgrades. Only commercial upgrades, and those upgrades work with the Academic versions. That's the way it's been since version 2.0 I suppose that apples policy on that could change, but so far... I suppose it's just a bit of niceness on apples part that after you graduate there is an easy and affordable upgrade path to obtain a comercial license.
