Lens

Post by half 35 »

Hi Diego

Thanks for your considerations.
I have thought over possibilits to use a std8 lens in the system, but the distance in the original cameras in 8mm field, are much closed ( the lens mount are only 17,mm between plan of film and lens mount)
In the 35mm SLR are in the range of 46mm, and the lens ,now adapted , would stay inside the body of camera.
Well,I go to try and error metod.

regards

While thinking some more about the 17.5mm system I pulled out my trusty old American Cinematographer Manual and looked up the dimensions of 35mm and 16mm film. It got me to thinking that maybe a lens for a 16mm camera would work. Especially if it also is good for Super 16. I happen to have a c-mount Canon TV zoom which is also suitable for use with Super 16 since it has a very wide coverage. Some of the TV lenses I have gotten from eBay are made for the larger 1" vidicon tubes which are more than enough for 16mm. It's interesting to note Chambless sells some of these TV lenses at a higher price by calling them "Super 16" lenses.

Where are you placing your frameline? It's hard to tell from the pictures. When I checked my 35mm cement splicer it puts the splice between perfs. Putting the frameline there would be logical.

I also have a 35mm tape splicer and this puts the cut right between the perfs (or holes as you call them).
