venting my angetr at eBay
For some reason my eBay account was suspended in January.
According to the suspension notice I received, they think I have provided false or fraudulent information. They requested I posted or faxed proof of ID and address to them. I requested they tell me *why* they believe my information to be false, and to remind me which of three possible addresses I registered with so I could provide the correct docuements.
I recieved a reply two days later telling me that basically I had just better send the documents, and they wouldn't tell me why I was suspended. My best guess is that my last transaction I was slow getting an item to somebody, perhaps he got my details from eBay and tried to phone me. It is possible my phone number was out of date or something like that.
Anyway after getting nowhere asking why I was suspended, I duly faxed a copy of my passport and a credit card bill (with the card number deleted, I'm not daft) to the number they gave. After being sure to google search the number to satisfy myself that it belongs to eBay.
I heard nothing.
I took to emailing eBay via their online form every day, seven days in a row. I heard nothing.
So I replied direct to the bozo who wouldn't tell me why I was suspended, asking why 10 days and seven emails after I had sent my details nothing had happened....and got an automated reply "processing your details can take seven days"
I pointed out by reply that it had already been 10 days, and that I'd sent seven emails without reply. I got a reply back that they were busy and perhaps I would like to fax my details again. I repsonded "No, I would like you to do something with the details I have already sent you. At this point in time I do not care what you do, reinstate my account or ban me for life. Just do SOMETHING".
Nothing happened.
I emailed twice more last week, and nothing has happened.
To be honest, if I wasn't trying to sell some cameras on behalf of a local charity I wouldn't bother any more with eBay after this experience. Customer service seems to be zero.

I've gotten these too. They're close enough to ebay messages to make you think twice, but they're also close enough to messages from Chase bank asking for the same thing. I know those are scams b/c I got no Chase accounts...
I'm sure you've tried going directly to ebay and logging in?

P.S. ebay won't suspend you for being slow to mail an item, or even for not mailing one at all w/o some considerable back-and-forth first.

I think the above quote is what it is all about. They want your private info. I hope you didn't fill out their form. I remember having had this mail too. I didn't reply and nothing happened.
So you can neglect them and report e bay on these guys via an e mail from the official ebay site.
Some years ago I had a problem with a payment too and I got pop ups from the (on line) ebay site warning me that I had to pay the amount or otherwise my membership would be stopped. The pop ups dissapearded after I had payed. (I forgot to pay the provision e bay takes on a sale)

Sounds like a spoof. I always redirect them to spoof@ebay.com and quickly get an automated acknowledgement, but then a bit later a standard statement that it was a spoof.
If it isn't a spoof then they can always contact you by snail mail.

I receive about two of those emails a week, all scams. If you look at the mailto: address, it has "extra stuff", like
cgi.ebay.com.192.168.1.1/bogus.html
or something like that. Also, you will notice that your ebay account works just fine, despite the warnings in the email.
Report the email to ebay. The scammers are trying to steal your ID.

I have gotten these from "EBay" and from "PayPal" and they look very real. However, in both case I sent the info to Spoof@Ebay.com or the equivalent for Paypal. I always recevied a very prompt response from the real comapny (even on a Saturday) that this was in fact a false email and that everything was fine with my account.

Sorry to hear this Angus - I hope it's not all a spoof - but it sounds like it is - I was going to say if it is legit the only way I got eBay to get off their lazy arses when they suspended me for ludicrous reasons was to threaten legal action.......but it sounds like someone else should be sued here...

Please do not be worried. I know about the scams. I get that one quoted above about four times a week, as well as one from PayPal and scam mails from at least five banks....three of which I do not have accounts with...
My eBay account really is suspended, I have been receiving email which genuinely seems to come from eBay if one parses the headers. I further googled the fax number they gave me to be sure that it belongs to eBay, and the references I found were blogs from people who had their accounts suspended.
So as far as I can tell, andI have been careful, this is genuine. The facts certainy are that my eBay account was suspended in january, I received a notification from eBay...not about some non-specific billing query but an account suspension letter. If I log in, going from "www.ebay.co.uk" (I never trust email links, though reading the source shows mine come from eBay) my account really is suspended.
This is just an example of dreadful customer service.

A friend of mine has had similar experiences with ebay's don't give a shit attitude here in Australia too.

It's not the size that counts, its what u do with it!
