It should work fine, you can try it with a very simple temporal setup and a piece of film. You just need a suitable lens and extention tubes. You can make a temporal tube with cardboard. 1 Lux is very light sensitive, but my ToUcam has the same.

Does the 1 Lux sensitivity cause problems?

I've got to get a project box and a lens, and solder the video and other connectors onto the wires before I can test it. As of right now, this is a bare surface mount PC board camera in a little white box. Not quite at the usable stage.

At this point the film is stationary, this is when the computer needs to be told to grab a frame. The switch is mounted to be actuated on the return portion of the cycle.

About the switch: it is better to put the trigger on the main axle, if possible. If you make this trigger movable around the axle, you can fine tune the exact swith moment, as I did. You need this, because there is some delay between the triggering and the framegrabbing. This delay depends on the used camera, speed of your computer etc....

No, but you need a dimmer on the backlight, and a good diffuser for the light: white glass and maybe some filtering also (greyfilter).
