Time lapse Flowers

Post by super8davies »

Can anyone give any handy advice as to filming the opening of a flower, and the moving of clouds. I'm thinking of shot intervals, filming times, and good examples of flowers to use.

I'm also think about doing traffic time lapse and any advive or tips would be great. (I'm using a 1014xls which has 1/5/20/60 second shot intervals).

Many thanks

I did some timelapses of Passionflowers in my garden last summer. They would go from bulb to fully open within an hour. If a group of flowerbuds were going to open that day, they all opened at the same time. If you can find a big Passionflower vine(and they can get quite large), the effect could be quite dramatic. The problem was knowing which bulbs were going to open that day-I filmed some days when the flowers I focused on failed to open. With a little practice I got better in identifying the buds that were going to open that day.

I think it was at about 9:00-10:00AM when the Passionflowers opened.

Morning Glories are another flower that would be predictable for regular morning bloom. Try Four O'Clocks in the afternoon and Moonflower(a morning glory relative) in the evening.
