Well said.

I posted this to see if anybody would argue in favor of my friend's position. Well, looks like that didn't happen. I can understand somebody getting upset about the extra cost of processing, though--but the results look so much better, even with a $2 thrift shop camera!

As for home movies with sound, I've only seen a handful of S8 movies with synch-sound and though the sound quality exceeded my expectactions, I do not think sound is absolutely necessary. Music is not necessary, either, but it can add to the mood...most of the music that gets added to telecined home movies sound like something you might hear in an elevator, so you might as well do without it.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I agree with everybody so far. I still shoot all of my home movies with Super8. I was filming a drag race that a friend of mine was in using K-40 and a lady came up to me with the biggest look of shock I ever saw on someones face! She absolutly did not believe that they still made Super8 film. I had to show her the develope by dates to prove that it indeed was new stock!!

My family loves it. Gathering around a projector and a screen as if its a once in a lifetime oportunity to watch. Most of my films don't have sound, but people look back on the event, and it electrifies the room.

I was really disapointed when Kodak quit making sound film though. Because when I bought my first sound camera, it was like when we went from black and white TV to color. But now, with double system sound, shooting super8 gets looked at as an even more cool thing with my Nagra at my side and having the sync slate at my feet.

I think if Kodak would make a small investment to run just ONE add about super8 for maybe two or three weeks, they would be quite suprised, and at least it would put an end to the "is it still made" question that alot of people ask. Maybe that should be the next petion to Kadak from this forum?!

But remember, whenever someone asks, tell them yes and to go to Kodak.com and buy a roll!!!!

Hello:
I just had transfered (Moviestuff) to minidv reg 8 film that was shot on Kodachrome 40 years ago. The colors were great and did not look faded. It looked wonderfull projected and on video! In the same project I had 3/4 (u-matic) tape and older oxide beta tape that was shot in the 1970's and it was horrible. Kodachrome is very special.
