Krasnogorsk 3 owners beware!

Post by rhcvatni »

Quite a few people, I think, on this forum are proud owners of the russian 16mm Krasnogorsk 3. I bought mine two days ago, and have been thinking of buying the 8mm peleng lens for $495 at this site ; http://www.k3camera.com/k3/ordering.stm.
I search on Ebay for stuff on a regular basis, but for some reason forgot about it this time. And even though I didn't buy it from the k3camera site, i was pretty pissed when i found it on Ebay for $165. And there are lots of them. I just had to tell you guys. Hope no one has done what i almost did.

Sorry m8, but you've been screwed up. Tons of brand new K3 packages are sold on e-bay for around 100 to 150$ .A friend of mine bought his package for 99$ with 2 prime lens included ( in addition of the zoom, filters, ect...) a few month ago.

This post is a bit off topic but applies to the K3. I got mine off ebay with a broken film meter and no light meter battery. Do any other K3 owners have suggestion on the best way to take care of these problems? Can you shoot film without the light meter and have good exposure? Could I fix the meter problem myself? Or should I trash it and buy another one?

Thanks if anyone responds.

Well, I bought the K3 on Ebay for $155, the complete set. The best looking one I've seen on Ebay so far.

I was talking about the Peleng 8mm lens.

Well, the construction of K3's film meter is so simply, that you'd even make new one by yourself!

About K3's internal light meter: forget it, it's just a piece of junk, just use external light meter avoiding the problems for example I have gone through.

BTW. have anyone tried to modify K3 (by yourself) to use electric film transfering motor? I think I'll try it out with my one and let you know then.

I'll try also to find out suitable crystal sync contruction at the same time.

Of course there are commercial product for it, but they are absolutely too expensives for me.
Best Regards

forgive my ignorance, but what exactly does the price of the k3 itself have to do with the price of this lens we're talking about? ;-)

Nothing! I think Basstruc was just misunderstanding what I was saying.

Hi Jukkasil,

Thanks for your help. I have not tried to modify this camera in any way and I am very interested in the results you find. As for the internal light meter, at your advise I will forget about it right now and go for a hand held meter instead.

Cheers,
Nick

It's the age-old story, shop around. K3camera.com lists the camera itself for $795, but you can find it on ebay every day of the week for $150. Other resellers used to list the Peleng 8mm lens at $895, but the ebay market rate is around $150.
