The s8 cam shoots 24 fps ( no sound obviously ) - we then speed up the footage by 1 fps to 25 fps on the projector - we would then have the artist running a bit ahead of the track when we come to import the original cd track into the nle ?
yes
we theorectically have to speed up the music track to fall right in line with the artist mime - or does 1fps to minor to notice ?
well, it depends on how long you show him without a cut. i'd say 3 seconds are no prob, more than 5 and it's beginning to become noticable. then readjust sync for the next cut.
but in this case you would probably want to slow down the video, and not speed up the audio, since the speed of the music is important for a song.
I understand that we dont normally see the artist singing along 100 % of the video but - when the artist does - it would definitely be ahead of the original recorded track - unless off course  Im completely wrong
no, you're right :)
For example - if we were to shoot sound also at 24 fps & match that with the original recording of the music track ( off cd ) - would that be in sync or off ?
you cant use the word fps for sound really (thats FRAMES per second.. audio doesnt have frames). with analog audio, you had different running speeds, so you could say i'm recording with 5cm/sec (5cm of tape) and play back with 6cm/sec (that will change the pitch though, remember when playing LPs on the speed for single records, ie 33rpm at 45rpm?). but todays digital recorders are all cristal synced, so you record 10 seconds and then you play them back it's still 10 seconds, no matter which speed you have chosen with your camera. (it's dead easy to change it in your NLE though).
but if you were to record a live concert, shoot 24fps with the camera, transfer at 25fps and use the live audio it would drift out of sync as well, just like the ticking of the clock does in my example above.
