So - how about the idea of shooting 24fps, then adjusting the speed with a projector to 25 fps & then, shooting of an a4 sheet with a 25 fps mini dv cam ?
would this work ok ?
I've read many post's here that my canon 1014 xls is a top notch s8 cam so - maybe I getting rid of a good s8 cam for nothing ?
I just wanted 25fps so I can reshoot without flicker for my nle editor.
I have a xl1 & my mate has a nice dvx100 - they both have 25 fps mode.

Typically, the camera is the last in the chain to change when achieving no-flicker transfers. The most economical and convenient way is to get a variable speed projector to eliminate flicker. There are several variable speed projectors available in eBay. Better yet, get a Workprinter for absolute no flicker.

jup, that would take care of the flicker, but you would have to adjust the speed of the audio aswell. obviously, your film will run slightly fast too, but it's really hard to spot the difference.

it's one of the top 10 models... if you're happy with the handling, keep it, the only reason to ditch it would prolly be to take up a Nizo sound model for sync sound shooting (it also has 25fps).. or to get some money ;)
I've done transfers that way using the Braun Visacustic 1000 and they came out totally flicker-free. You just dial the shutter speed of the PAL video camera down until the flicker disappears.
Is this using a 25fps S8 cam or 24 fps s8 cam ?
Im assuming if you have a 25 fps s8 cam with a 25 frame mode dv cam then no flicker will happen ?
Im thinking that an adjustable projector would be ok with my canon 1014 xls at 24 fps but - If I were to add the music track in post, it would be out of sync by one frame so I guess some speed change is needed :?

well, hadly any camera runs at *exactly* 25fps (you need to get one cristal synched), so for a longer piece you'll have to adjust audio in post anyway.. just a bit less ;)
I did the shooting with a 24fps camera - Canon 814 XL-S. You then just project the 24fps material (which isn't exactly 24 anyway unless you are crystal synced) at 25fps using the Braun Visacustic for your transfer to PAL. The difference in speed is minimal and to my untrained not to be noticed. I don't really see what the problem with a soundtrack would be? If you are not shooting with a crystal camera you're not going to be right on with the speed anyway. Once the material is on video it's at 25fps anyway. Maybe someone else can explain why this method of transfer could cause problems with audio because I just don't see it.
