bought camera with paypal....

Post by richalezio »

I apologize if this is unrelated but:

I have purchased a camera off ebay - I have paid with paypal and the payment has gone through

only I'm worried that I should have done something to hold payment until you recieve the item - is that possible with paypal?

it's just that I'm worried about about

1. the camera arriving non functional or
2. not recieving the camera at all 8O

any ideas?

As a seller, I certainly wouldn't send my camera to someone who promised to pay after they received it. If they decided not to pay, I would have no recourse and would have to take the loss.

One thing you can do is link a credit card to the Paypal account (with no cash in the account). When you make payment, it will be debited from your credit card. If you don't receive the merchandise, you simply contact your card company within 30 days and tell them "I didn't get the merchandise." They will investigate & reverse charges.

There are escrow services that will accept your money and send it to the seller once they receive the goods. However, they can't check to make sure that a Super 8 camera is in good working order (so you could still end up buying something less than perfect) and they're expensive.

PayPal itself has buyer protection. It helps to read the auction carefully to make sure the seller is offering to make good on his sale. Those who say "as is" do it to absolve themselves of liability in case the item does not work as you expected. You can always email the seller before bidding. Many sellers will try to resolve problems with items. It also helps to look at the seller's feedback page. I have purchased many items off eBay. Many range from $10 to $100. A few in the $200 to $500 range. When it comes to the higher priced items I do open commincations with the seller and ask questions. Good sellers will want to have informed buyers to deal with.

ebay also has protection for buyers. Look into that. Read the feedback.
I always try to use PayPal and I always fret away 'till it arrives. Everything has worked out perfectly every time ... so far. I hope it continues that way. It is the only way this wierd wired system will work for all of us, if we all do our part to be NICE and honest. I have learned to be - this was tough - Patient.
Have faith.
It'll be alright.
Easy does it.

I just bought a Canon 814 via ebay. I was scared before I got it, then even more scared when I got it. The camera didn't work. I started to panic, although I got it for cheap. I put new batteries in it, and it still didnt work. Then after I slept on it, I realized that the explanation was obviously that the batteries contacts were corroded. Sure enough, when I looked, they were covered in battery acid. Now my camera works just fine!

Moral: Don't worry, even if it doesnt work when you get it. It is from last century, you can easily fix it yourself.
