No response from the "other" board. So here it is:
It was described as a "Silma super 8 and standard 8mm SOUND projector" from 1965! I have never heard of one of these but, it looked so pretty, I had to bid on it and I won it for $31.00. Was this a good deal? Anyone know anything about them? Looks like it's made out of all metal but who knows? Apparently it's an Italian model but will run on 115VAC. Anyway, I'll get it in a week or so out of Mexico. Any information from the peanut gallery would be welcome. Here's a pic.
I never heard of the projector before so I cannot help you there.
However, I read on this board a few months ago that there were Regular 8mm sound projectors available on the market in the late 1950s/early 1960s. According to the Regular 8mm enthusiasts, Keystone (or was it Fairchild?) offered a Regular 8mm camera that could record sound (though the original poster pointed out that it "couldn't do synch-sound.")
That written, a Dual 8mm sound projector from 1965 really isn't amazing. No offense and I don't mean to rain on your parade. Please do let us know how the projector operates.
Not much help here either but the Widescreen Centre sold some brand new Silmas a while ago: http://www.fvi.org.uk/newsuper8.htm Guess these models were from a more "recent" date and not running dual format 8.
Silma was the most important Italian manufacturer of S/8 projectors. During the last years of the S/8 age (early '
80's) it became part of the Bosch/Bauer German empire. As such its projectors, though belonging to a lower level of the market, used to share several parts with the higher end Bauer's.
But the projector you came across with, should be a "real" older genuine Silma. All in all these are very good consumer machine with a very good price/performance ratio.
By the way Silma went on manufacturing sound one track projectors as early as the early 90's with the Eumig brand name.
They were all manufactured in Turin northern Italy and were as popular as Eumig's were in other parts of Europe.

I found one article from Finnish journal Tekniikan Maailma, ("World of Technics", Dec 1964) which dealed with Silma Compact 8. That projector was made of metal. There were one evident remark I noticed: "wire insulations were too thin (those which go to motor)". And light attachment was without enough touch shelter.
