I was toying with the idea of changing to Mac, but I am going to have to stick to PC.
I have a friend with a version of Adobe Premiere, and was wondering what opinions anyone else has on the pro 1.5, which appears to be the current version.
How capable is this software?
would it, for example:
Produce an EDL?
Would it be capable of compositing two separate elements, for example one shot with blue screen?
Thanks for any opinions,
Matt

AP 1.5 exports EDL in CMX3600 format by default.
It works with Adobe after effects plug ins and basic effects, including keying, colour adjustment, speed etc.
It's very good as an affordable PC solution.
It does support 24p projects, but in my opinion it's more of a straight to web/DVD editing program than film program.
I also find the trim option to be inferior of both FCP and especially Avid. In the end it's a matter of taste and workflow. Any NLE can produce a in and out point, it's just a matter of how you do it.

Adobe Premiere
I am not very technically minded but what does this mean : 'exports EDL in CMX3600 format by default'

The Ulead 6.5 a present being given away on at least a couple of magazines is a bit of a revelation. It certainly runs fast on my new Semperon machine, and seems have all the essentials except outputting the latest file formats, but there are plenty of other programmes to convert .avi to mpeg.
Up to now I have been using Edit Studio 2 and was considering upgrading to version 4 until I tried out the trial version and found the bit I liked had been messed around with. Now I think I will try out this Ulead 6.5 a bit more.

I'm very happy with Magix:
http://site.magix.net/index.php?id=411
16 tracks, blue screen/green screen, picture-in-picture etc...
Lots of audio features, too.

Take my advice and get Sony's Vegas. You'll be happy you did. This is a solid program that supports scripting (yes, scripting) and comes with a 5.1 encoder out of the box. Add to the package Sony's DVD authoring and you are looking at a rock solid package that works well with Sound Forge.
In addition, the support forum is very lively. Unlike those of Adobe's.
And the capture utility of Vegas is first class.

Re: Adobe Premiere
it means that if you don't change any setting, the exported edl will be in the cmx3600 format. or was it some other question you really wanted to ask?S8W wrote:what does this mean : 'exports EDL in CMX3600 format by default'
