Short S-8 film available for viewing

Post by berk »

Hello everyone,

Here is a short super 8 film that I made last year called "Someone is Watching Me" . It did a run of some festivals across North America this past summer. I did everything myself, no crew at all -its less than 2 minutes long. I shot it using a Canon 1014E, the film was tri-x, transfered using Forever on DVD , edited on Premier and I bought the sounds from sounddogs.com. I guess it's like a poem video - a rock video without the music. Anyway I hope you enjoy it !

That was really really great Deniz!

Wonderful pictures and superb editing. I also liked the brown tint.

Now, the critique. You can take it with this product in your bag...

Although it is great, I think you could have done better with a crew and concentrated on acting. It is a bit stiff. Maybe it is because I know you are alone when I watch it. It's a bit distracting anyway.

There's some obvious sound synch issues. This is not synch but dub. If you have tried a little bit harder I think you could have gotten the synch right. Now that it's there, use it. I mean, you don't have to speak all the time. Some short had great synch, keep them. But use shots with you not speaking or even saying something else. I think that would suit the mood perfectly and contribute to the atmosphere you are trying to create.

Just thoughts for next time. You should really do more!

Some of the best I have seen on this site for long time. Very inspiring.

Coooooool. I like the way it looked. Great shots and composition. Shawn at Forever on DVD does really nice work, doesn't he? Very considerate of what the artist is trying to achieve. A nice guy, too.

I enjoyed it... probably freaked my toddlers out though... I loved that snippet of the grim reaper and the axe (or sicle?).... very very memorable.

Let's face it, you have more content in your short than the whole Blair Witch hoax had going for it.

Best wishes! Oh, I overlooked the out of sync voice and marked it down to netcast... Nothing a quick moment on my Vegas timeline wouldn't take care of...

Thanks for creepy dreams tonight too.

Cheers,
Michael

I really enjoyed it. Nice black and white photography & composition. You
are a pretty photogenic person which helps. The sync issues
didn't bother me, you can get away with it in experimental film. But the
reason I didn't LOVE it was because you showed yourself talking. If I had
made the movie, I would have used your dialogue as a narration. At the
very least I would not have synced the screams. I think it would have
been quite an impact to quickly cut in a shot of your face being stone
cold during the screams. Still you made a pretty cool short. Nice 8)

I really enjoyed it. The only area I may have worked at a bit more is the sync sound. Cool Edit Pro (now Adobe Audition) is still out there and the sound issue could've been addressed. Other than that, everything about it was very well done.

Films like this bring the horror back to horror films, something even Hollywood is having trouble with today.

Thank you for sharing it with us.

great work, very good!

I agree on the sound sync though, could have been a bit better, but it is neglectable.

Really dug it. Can't wait to see yr next project. Lighting was great. Very film noir where the lighting has no real direction just mood. Thanks for sharing.

I guess I'm just echoing what’s already been said. But I just want to say awesome job. I liked it a lot. The lighting and editing was exellent. It really set that dark gothic mood. I hope we see more of your work in the future.

Ohhh man. THis short suceeds on so many levels, such great photgraphy and its quick. I really love German Expressionism so glad to see the style is stick kicking in some form. Narration could've been a better thing but you know what you took the extra step. You voice is sort of spooky yet comical at the same time which I like, I don't know about others. Thanks for putting it up so we can all see.
