Light meter help
So I've decided I'm finally in the market for a hand-held light meter. It's taken some time. In any event do any of you have an opinion on what type I should invest in or should look at? I don't want something too pricey at the moment. Just some input would be appreciated.

Re: Light meter help
I went to B&H Photo & paid $64.95 for a Sekonic L 188 light meter. I think it was under $70 with postage. It has Cine settings. You can use it from 8 FPS to 128 FPS.Meltwater Hawk wrote:So I've decided I'm finally in the market for a hand-held light meter. It's taken some time. I was disappointed when it arrived. It looks very cheep. And the settings are so close together on the dial, that I need to get my glasses out to read it. I hate that. You will not get that with a better light meter. On the plus side, it works just fine. I have used it on about 6 rolls of 16mm and I can't complain about it. I am *really broke* so I had to look for a very low cost light meter, and this one was it.
You can find many light meters on B&H's web site. Here is a link to the L 188:

I have purchased several lightmeters on eBay. You can find cheap models which don't use batteries. The earlier ones have cine scales but many have hard to read numbers. My most recent purchase was for a Gossen Luna Pro and it was a great buy. The cheapest was for a Kalimar which works well but only has a single mark for the movie speed of 18 fps.

it has a different, wider footcandle scale which makes it easier to use, especially in low light. otherwise they're the same. and they are extremely accurate, especially since you can move it around a little and create your own weighted average, eliminating the risk of measuring the wrong light source.
