switiching between square and rectangular pixels.

I know video uses the .9 pixels, but have many of you captured film frame by frame with a digital camera and then translated it to the .9 pixels? How did it look? I'm worried it would look worse if you changed it.

done this a lot of times to import stills into a video project. in PAL, what i do is resize and crop the image to 768x576 keeping the proportions, then squeeze that frame to 720x576.
for NTSC, i guess you would start with resizing to 720x540, then squeeze to 720x486.

christoph is of course dead on. or you can use photoshop which has the pixel aspect ratio of dv (pal/ntsc/16:9) built in. so does fcp by the way. just feed it square pixels and it will be converted automatically.

I work in television commercials and do this a ton. To make the pixels/picture concurrent with NTSC 4:3 then you have to make the size of 720x480. 720x486 would be slightly off, though not noticable.

AP 6.5 for the MAC imports square dv pixels and sexport square or 1.067. transformation is brilliant at 720x576. Planning to post a sample later. Original square pixels seem to be 0.9 at least for NTSC.
