short film teaser trailer

I can see what Santo is driving at in his own style :-D But I have to say that judging from mattias other works that I have seen (his sister graduation, and a music video), that mattias is really good. I do not know the story of his film, but the trailer was actually quite good. Nice facial and tracking shots with good emotional and dramatic content. Very appealing. Reminds me, sort of, of Meg Ryan :-D Good work Mattias - from what we have seen in the trailer so far and taken for its own merit. Actually I was able to form a picture of the plot based on the trailer.

thanks for your feedback. i should have mentioned that this trailer was put together in two minutes to show as a teaser to friends and members of this forum. you're probably right it makes no sense at all to somebody who has no idea what this is at all. i'll take your advice with me when we cut the "real" one.
Having said that, I know how worthless most films are that get into film festivals with programmers basing their decisions on playing it safe and/or "old boys" networks, so my criticisms likely may not be important if your film allows them to play it safe and you are part of some "old boys" network.
sadly i'm not that well connected, yet, so the film has to get in on its own merits. the good part is that most festival shorts aren't actually that great, selected using the old boys method or not. anyway as i said this teaser is not meant to sell the film. the festivals get the complete film to preview and we're working on a much better trailer for the website.

I thought it looked good - but it didn't really tell me much - but as you said Matt it's not the real trailer so that doesn't really matter. Knowing what the voice over means though does add a bit of interest to it. Keen to see the rest

If you made a longer trailer, please post again. It looks indeed very promising, but even now understanding the voiceover it is still not really telling something. But hey, itÃ‚Â´s a teaser, right?

I'm actually very supportive of what I've seen of Mattias's work. I had nothing but good comments for LAST ONE IN IS A ROTTEN EGG and said so widely and thought it was a nice little piece. A film which seems to have helped launch his career and is leading to other things -- like this new short. My criticism is based on a school of thought that requires that one approach these things from the most critical angle possible and spare no feelings. However to do so effectively, you need to have some idea of what you're talking about and be specific and, preferably, put yourself in the shoes of some jerk who's in control of judging/showing/buying/distributing these things. It's not so easy -- you have to know a few and figure out how they think.

yeah, i appreciate your feedback. sometimes you sound like our executive producer who comes to the editing room sometimes, watches ten seconds, and the walks away while half to himself saying "yep, you guys sure got lots of work to do". :-) i think i misunderstood you during the last thread on this subject, and thought you were simply taking roger's side in trying to punish me for something i supposedly said that could possibly have hurt the feelings of someone. ;-) that's the only reason i got defensive over your criticism.

I kinda agree a little, but donÃ‚Â´t you think it is time to put down the battle-axe?

Seriously, if we all just go on being the nice and polite guys we are, maybe "everyone" will eventually follow the footsteps of kindness?
And I think that I have been seeing a little bit more gentle side of this "jerk" lately, perhaps the transformation to a super-nice-kind-not insulting-nor rude kinda guy has started as a result of the discussions in the past?

Lets just hope that he doesenÃ‚Â´t lose his skills and sharp eyes in the transformation!

You've totally lost me here. Who exactly could I possibly be talking about on this board? There is nobody here that I know of that is a film distributor or film festival judge/programer (of any consequence) or broadcaster.

we do? i'm one of the few who knows santo's real identity and i've still no idea whatsoever which distributors or festival curators he might know...

ok, now i'm starting to get a feeling you're talking about me? that doesn't make sense. you mean santo has to think like me to know what a distributor would think of my trailer? i think you've misunderstood something here.

Personally, I am waiting to see more.

The clip that Mattias showed prior to the teaser was a decent clip--Dusty but not bad.

The short could end up being a good sized crow-bar that he may be able to use for some leverage in the future--Who knows...

yes, while i certainly have artistic ambitions with this film, the main idea behind making it "the professional way" is to break into the industry.

Nicely photographed and the sound is good too. Although, in my humble opinion, the opening shot needs to be stronger for a trailer. The actor looks confused and at first I was too. Then in the following scene it becomes clear that your story is about her crisis.

I think a good trailer is like meeting someone in person. You get a feeling for who they are right away, instantly. I don't know if I have the words to explain what it means to me, but I feel like a good trailer should say something about a characters shoes, or car, or bicycle, or breakfast, or boyfriend.....and I suppose that happens a bit in this trailer, but truth is for me, the first scene makes or breaks a trailer. Your first scene doesn't say enough to warrant its length in the trailer....I hope my comments are helpful in some way...

I look forward to seeing the finished product!

Which are you planning?

Brief Encounters in Bristol is a highly regarded event, but has just happened, in November - I think that entries for Nov 05 need to be submitted in June / July (I think)
