Lunar07, vonfilm and I are going to Austin's Flicker showing tonight for inspiration (and drinks).

Roger, if you leave now you can get here from Houston (or Utopia) just in time. Of course, if you're in Utopia, that drive up 338 (? is that right ?) is most beautiful. Do you ever go that way? I guess that might be the wrong direction for you, but probably worth it. :!:

Wish I could join you guys. Last time I was in Austin was for a technical training seminar about 5 years ago. I drove from south of Houston and going on I-10 west for most of the time.
I lived in Austin back in the late 70's and enjoyed watching some great movies on the big screen like Casablanca and the Big Sleep. I think it was the Varsity theater on Guadalupe near the U.T. campus that ran classic movies.

These days, the Paramount theater on Congress shows films on Wednesday nights. That's an old school huge theater with an enormous screen and great sound system. Months ago I saw "A Touch of Evil" there.
Also, the director's cut of Blade Runner. Mmmmmm...-

I've been down from Dallas twice for the Austin Flicker and I had a great time on both occasions. But I find it too long a drive for a weekday unless I take 1/2 day off work on the day of the showing and the entire following day off too. I wish it were on a Friday or Saturday night, but I'm sure the rental on the theatre would be prohibitive, if it were available at all.
Let us know your impressions. The whole lineup for this show sounds intriguing, especially "God returning to earth as a sandwich" and "Re-purposed porn".

oops, sorry, it's just "Touch of Evil". Charlton Heston as a Mexican is unforgettable. One of Mr. Wells finest, most slurred performances. It looked fantastic on the gigantic screen, btw...David M. Apparently, some FOAF in NYC are friends of his and were with him when he found out he was busted, when he went in to jail, etc. and they did a lot of videotaping of the whole affair.
