There's a real difference between these two models apart from the sound capabilities? I mean, is picture quality equal? Is the lens exactly the same or a very similar one?
I'm deciding which one I want to buy, and the silent model looks more atractive to me ( portability, many interesting functions, quality...), but if the sound model gives a better picture I'll go for it.
Any clue?

There is no Canon 1014XL, there is a Canon 1014 Electronic [E for short] and XL-S. No "XL."
The XL-S has two fixed shutter size [220 and 150]. E has 150, 75 and 37.5.
The XL-S lens is 6.5-65mm and E is 7-70mm. But the quality is the same.
XL-S has a built in time laps feature. E does not.
E is loud. XL-S is no Nizo 6080/4080 but it is quieter.
Both are very durable [More durable than Beaulieu or Nizo].

Yeah I have read that too. But I have owned both cams and can't see the difference or at least its so subtle that it would be foolish to say one is superior to the other. I have some footage where the E looks better and some the XL-S looks better, thus, I conclude the difference is probably because of the given situation and skill of the operator [me] than it is about the technical difference of the 2 cameras....always been under the impression that the 1014xle
has the better lens ( from what ive read over the years ).
I love the 1014 series and 814 XL-S.

Canons maintenance manual for the 1014/814 xl-s claims the same perfomance for the xl-s as the e except that they are very proud over having made the lens 40% shorter or so with the same performance which was regarded as impossible initially.
