Dusting off my 8mm need some advice.......

Post by Gorilla »

Hi there I am using some of my free time to pick up the pieces of my 8mm film endavers after having had to put it all down about 8 years ago.

So I'm stoked about how far technology has come making it possible for me to do virtually everything on my computer via DV , DVD ect.... considering my old school knowledge of the film to video transfer process. I need some updated knowledge on the subject.

So to get to my questions:

I have about 20 rolls of 8mm film I need to get transfered to video and I want to retain the best image quality possible for the least amount of cost if possible, but quality is definately important.

1. Recomended places to have it done for me?(any in Colorado?)
1.1 whats a fair rate? for what ?
2. should I have it tranfered to mini DV, DVD, or what?
3. Is it worth trying to do myself? is this printmaker telecine or other worth a look.(if so what projector should I try to use and what transfer machine?) how much difference is there between and professional transfer vs a do it your self job.

4. I have just also purchased the ulead 6.5 directors cut editing soft ware does anyone else use this is it any good?

5. If these questions have been asked a thousand times in here I do applogize for the repeatatatatatavive subject matter.

Finally my prefferance would be to just have it done but I think 1200.00 to have 20 rolls transfered to mini DV is maybe a little high ? that was the first quote I got from an old source.

any relavant info would be greatly appriecited.

Thanks
