AUSTRALIANS...are you wanting negatibe super8?
is anybody actually wanting any or is it mere puffery?
double super8!
you know.. I do appreciate your effort and I realize how important this is.. not only to you personally, but to DS8 as a format..
but do you really need to post 2 or 3 different threads about it everyday?..
I'm not picking on you, but I think it would even benefit your "cause" if you would keep it all in one thread, and be more specific about what's up instead of asking people to join the yahoo group (which I did..) and posting a new thread all the time..
and no, I'm not interested in ordering any at the moment ;)

Negative stocks
Francis:
A great plan but the first step would be to find a lab that will be willing to process Super 8 negative stocks in oz (at a fair price) and then pin down a high quality transfer house to enable the transfer into the digital format we all seem to work with.
Films Plus Melbourne previously processed VNF but since it is no longer being made I do not know if they are processing the remaining stock ??
They may develop colour negative stock (S8) already or may be able to convert their VNF train.
Cheers

as for the transfer, video 8 in nsw apparently do a great shop at decent prices.
as for processing, film plus said they wont do it probably becasue there doesnt seem to be demand. the demand can only happen if the product is sold. its a catch 22. the other thing is that i hear film plus is hard to deal with and quality is unreliable. i wont comment on if this is true or not.
as for developing, per foot the cost of breaking a cartridge will always be more expensive then double super8. to give you a rough example oif what it would cost:
200 ft of super8 neg will cost about 70 dollars to process (using international numbers as a baseline)
developing 200ft of double super8 neg would cosy between 20-25 bucks depending on the lab. and the labs are setup for double super8
im working on all of this...logically ds8 is the best option but im fighting for the carts too although its seeming unlikly

Hi Francis,
Reading your post, I saw the same story that I heard many times here in Santiago. The labs, Kodak, the transfer house etc.. did not wanted to do the first step... But things have began to change, and now Kodak Chile have imported a first batch of v2 200T and v2 500T. A lab will soon begin the test for developing ECN.2, and may be ... may be we will see one day the possibility to transfer s8 right here. At the moment, some super8 shooters, are having their super8 color negative to be developed and transfered in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with very good quality and good prices.
Good luck,
Daniel

firstly, k40 isnt the only stock around.
i think it will be the next order though.
if you want to get the cost of ds8 vs super8 in k40 then do youre own work. figure out the cost of buying and processing 200ft of k40
then figure out the cost of buying 100ft roll of 16mm k40 and processing it. see if there is a diff. even if its the same the image will be far steadier and there are other options with ds8, like the potential for other stock
