Just thought you might like to know that Asustek are currently working on an advanced IEEE 1394 Bus PCI Card (Fire Wire), which will allow for data transfer up to 5 times faster than normal Fire Wire cards. This will be a great help for streaming film onto pc's for editing. It should be out by April 2005

however this is pretty much a non-issue for most users, since typical video transfers through firewire are in a DV codec which only needs 3.7MB/sec (plus a small overhead).
even uncompressed standard definition video will nicely fit through an old-school FW connection (heck you can even do HD to some extend), although that not many hard drives will be able to cope with the data rate in non-raid configuration.
so, to sum it up, nice to know that the computer world is making advances (kinda surprising, no? ;) but it's not really going to be "a big help" for most people working with video until HD becomes standard.
