Viewer!?

Anyone know a good useable viewer? I have a Goko, and its koko.. :? I think it stinks, just a blury picture and the focus is out of control. So, give me the names of some good ones please. Anyone for sale out there maybe?

Minette S-5 is the best I've used so far - bright glass screen, film path safe on the film, and metal construction. Only problem is they rarely show up in eBay nowadays.

Hello.

Which model Goko do you have? I have the MM-1, and like it a lot. The motorized advance/rewind is very useful. It’s not fantastically bright, but I find it easily useable with room lights reduced/off. There are a couple of shoe-mount accessories that are nice, too -- the frame counter, in particular. I find that very useful.

I’ve heard positive things about the Elmo 912. Never used one.

My Goko is a "G-1001 super-8 Editor". It has the shoe-mount, but I don't have any acessories. Guess am on the market for a new one.

Got a Goko M-3003 which I think is simple but good. Capable of viewing Regular8 and Super8 films - also replaced the standard buld with a halogen one that makes the picture a lot brighter. Really can recommend that viewer for pople that are after a moderate priced one.

I also have the Goko RM-8008 (motorized, capable of recording sound onto stereo tracks, absolutely great gear)

I´m very interested in the HKS-viewers that project the image instead of using a rotating prism. Too bad that they are rare and sometimes cost as much as a Bauer studioclass projector. But who knows....

I will agree with the Minnette S-5. I have one and I love it--It is by far the best Super8 viewer made by human beings.

Hello !
This summer I bought at ebay.de a HKS- viewer in good condition at ebay.de for 56 Eur ! I can use a 6 V/ 20 W halogen pin base lamp ( for HKS /last series ) .
A fine viewer is the Bauer F 20 with metal film guide . The screen is much sharper, if you replace the original screen with "Glasscreen"

I run an Argus. The only complaint I have is that it is too dim at times.

hi nilse,

goko's a pretty good brand. have you pulled your viewer apart and checked it? sometimes the square glass prism and lenses and the deflection mirrors get dirty causing blurriness of picture. the focus unit is usually just a couple of lenses inside a threaded screw. unscrew the lenses and clean them with lens cleaner. sometimes that's all it is and most editors are easy to pull apart. unless of course you've already done all this.

Yes I have pulled it apart and tried to fix the focus-screw, but not cleaning the lenses. I'll have a go in the weekend. Maybe I can change into a halogen bulb to!?

Henry, do you know of any sources to get the "Glasscreen" replacement for the Bauer or the Erno Viewer at a normal price?
Wittner seems to offer replacements but far too expensive (79 Euro +shipping)

A few years ago Glasscreen was still cheaper at Wittner.
