Kodak XL 320

Post by BonnutFilmStudio »

Hey, anybody know anything about the Kodak XL 320? I know it's sound but does anyone know anything else about it? 18 speed record? or 24 speed? I only buy Canon cameras so I don't know much about this Kodak It seems pretty standard from the pictures I saw. I'm getting it in the mail soon and I'd prefer not to be suprised. I only needed a standard camera anyway but I'm just curious.

The Kodak XL line was the binocular shaped cameras with a separate parralax viewfinder and 230 degree shutter that made them "XL" meaning existing light. The only one that shot at other than 18fps,that I know of was the XL 55 that had a 9fps setting and the Supermatic which had a 24fps setting.I think the camera you have has a 13mm to 36mm zoom.No sound. The sound models were the Ektasound 130,140,230 and 240 as well as the Supermatic model (first to feature the 200 foot magazine capability)which had 24fps capability.

I've owned two of the XL line. One was a gift from my father-in-law. I retired it in the 80s when I got my first VHS camcorder. When I re-discovered super8 I dug it out and found it did not work. I then bought another off eBay. I managed to shoot two cartridges before it too quit.

I've since heard that the the XL line was not very reliable and prone to early failure

Hi. I have had 6 of these and they ALL suffered the same fate. The plastic gear at the motor becomes soft over time and when it is used, it breaks and renders the camera useless. Had the design been better, I would still use these as they are unique looking but with the trouble I've had with them, I wouldn't accept one now if it were free.
