Bell & Howell Super 8 Questions
Hello
I have couples of questions...
Well I finally got my first super-8...pretty happy !!!
My grand-father gave it to me today...he also gave me the projector.
I don't really know wich model it is...its only written Bell & Howell Autoload Optronic Eye.
I dont have the light....my grand-father lost it but he will try to find it.
Is it a good camera ? i want to start making movies...is it good enought ?
I will probally go in a movie school...but for now i don't have money to go there cause its really expensive :?
And I don't have films...how can they cost ? no sound...
Thanks
Derek

If you shoot K-40 outside, on a bright day, you don't need a light.
I don't know the model number of your B&H. Here is a B&H Super8 light that may work with your camera. Remember, you don't *need* a B&H brand light, other brands will work.

Hi Derek, welcome to the forum
If your camera is fully working, it's probably enough to get started in shooting film.. There are a lot of sources to buy Super8 film, but it depends on your location.. I think in the USA 1 cart of Kodak Kodachrome 40 (K40) costs around $10 to $14, + processing.. In europe it's a bit more expensive, but you can try to get student discounts from kodak.
Good luck!

my camera is a bell & howell model 8429 and i tried to make a research on it and i didn't find any camera like this...
now ill need to buy couples of films to experiment
how long can i shoot with a film ? my parents told me it was 5 min....thats not long 8O
hehe.. it's actually even less, depending on the frame rate.. if you use the standard 18 frames per second, you'll get around 3:20min. 50ft of Super8 movie film contain 3600 frames (anyone correct me if I'm wrong..) so at 18fps -> 200 seconds -> 3 minutes and 20 seconds..
since you're really new to all this, I think you should take a look at the links at the top of the page.. specially "Shooting Film" and the online book linked there.. good luck

Like Unxetas said, if you haven't done so, read the e-book on filmshooting here. It contains pretty much everything you need to know to get started on film.
Good Luck
René.

The projector you've scanned in looks like an old Bell and Howell Standard 8. I've got one like it.
Be sure to check whether your camera is a Standard 8 (also Double, or Regular 8), or a Super 8. The type of film they use is completely different, and perforated differently. It may be why you are having trouble.
Camera: if it's got 2 spools on the inside, it's Standard 8.
If it takes a square shaped cartridge, it's Super 8.
Hope this helps
