Which super 8 camera should I choose from these Badboys!

Post by TankBullock »

I am looking to purchase my first super 8 camera. I will using it to shoot documentry style footage in available light. I have done some research and found three for sale that appear to meet my needs.

Canon 814 electronic £85 (private ad, mint) with projector, splicer, editor and 2 rolls of film.

Bauer C900 £295 (dealer mint-)

Nizo 800 £485 (dealer mint)

to be honest the canon on price alone seems to be the clear favourite. Do the other two offer any significant advantages over the 814? Lens quality is fairly vital to me as i intend to use some super 8 sequences in a 35mm feature.

Any help would be great as I have very little knowledge in the land of super 8.

cheers

Tank.

The Canon 814 is a nice camera. The other two you mentioned have more features but I think that the prices are high. I love Canon Super 8 cameras and always recommend them. If you want to take a step up from the Canon 814, something with more of the features of the Nizo S800, I have a Canon 1014 Autozoom at the moment that is in mint- condition and priced right. Please contact me directly at connikurt@t-online.de for more details.

Hi,forget the Nizo and Bauer, prices far too high..What dealer did you see them at?...The sharpest super 8 footage i have so far seen was taken through a Beaulieu camera with angeneiux zoom..Bauers have good lenses and up until i saw the beaulieu footage i thought canon made the best and sharpest lenses. I own canon 1014/814/514xls,514 xl none of these came close to the sharpness of the angeneiux lens...Unless you need a camera urgently, look around, see what else comes up.....Canon 814xle,make sure its not the black version as this had no 24fps,dont buy a camera without
24fps....make sure exposure meter works and camera runs ok.....

i agree with the others the Bauer and Nizo prices are absolutely ridiculous!!!

Check also http://www.ebay.co.uk or http://www.ebay.com and search on super 8, super8, canon super 8, canon super8 etc.

Well, i'm a little late, but i can also say that the Canon 814 is the best choice, i own one myself and i had a Nizo in the past, and i can say that the Canon is much more efficient and cheaper.
