Kodak must be on drugs....

Post by sonnyboo »

Okay. In the past I have used the PREPAID MAILERS to send of the Kodak EKTACHOMRE 125 film stock to be developed. It kinda states "KODACHROME and EKTACHROME film" on the mailer.

I get the roll back today, and even argue over the phone with several people that this IS Ektachrome movie film, and that the mailer says so on the label. The film cartridge says so, but they claim they do not & have never developed this before....

I try to tell them I am reading these words "EKTACHROME SUPER 8 MOVIE FILM" on both the film cartridge and the prepaid mailer.... but they claim they don't do that.

They recommend ROCKY MOUNTAIN FILM LAB, but they want $29.95 for developing the one roll and $4 shipping. That's the cost of 5 prepaid mailers...

Can someone explain this to me ? ANy similar experiences ?

Kodak processing

Post by David M. Leugers »

Kodak has never offered processing for their Ektachrome VNF film either in 16mm or later in the S-8mm formats. I would bet you if you looked closely you would find they state this clearly on every cartridge of S-8mm VNF film they sell. What the Ektachrome processing is for concerns the discontinued Ektachrome 160 film stock which is not the same process as the VNF film. Kodak continues to process this old (now long out of date) filmstock until they are satisfied there is no more out there or not enough to keep a processor dedicated to it. This is dedication to the customer. Your Ektachrome VNF can be developed at many independant labs around and for far less money than Rocky Mountain will. Try Film and Video lab in Minneapolis or check out Kodak's web site for S-8mm film services, they have an extensive list of labs offering processing. The famous Kodak mailer is a great buy today, but you must shoot Kodachrome if using fresh stock since Ektachrome 160 has not been available since around 1999. Good luck and enjoy the fun of shooting real film. I hope this helps clear things up.

The pre paid mailers only state "For Kodachrome & Ektachrome Super 8 Movie Film".

They recommended ROCKY MOUNTAIN, but they wanted $25 developing and $6 shipping.

I found this place instead - http://www.prepfilm.com/price.html PRep Film Sevices & Lab - for $14 developing & $3 shipping. AfterI get eh film back, I'll let everyone know how they fared.
