And at 1600 dpi it would be a lousy 35mm scanner as well. A good s8 scanner is a good 35mm scanner, and vice versa ;-)

A theoretical possibility would be to move the film over a (fixed) filmscanner sesor, why not a 8000dpi like nikon's high end models. I can't say if this could be done with the necessary precision.

Yes, he even has a link to my site! I've communicated with him in the past. A very knowledgable guy and seems to really take this seriously. Pretty impressive amount of research and well beyond the usual assumptions about this approach, which typically ignore the actual results in favor of theory.

Yes, is this not a shame? The man is realy capable. If you see
how carefully he examined the Bell & Howell sprocket wheel....
