Sears C-131 fade controls

Post by super8fireman »

I have a Sears C-131 that has several controls on it and was wondering, when you use the fade button on these types of cameras, when you get your film back, is the fade complete to black or just close to it? I haven't run film in it yet but I wanted to know what to expect from this feature before I waste precious film on it. Thanks.

In theory it should fade completely to black. In theory. What you have to watch out for is running it too long after the fade is complete, as this would be a waste of film (unless you want it black for a few seconds). Some cameras automatically stop when the fade is complete, but I doubt that one will. Try a few dry runs, without film in it - open film compartment door, point the camera at a strong light, run the motor and press the fade button. You should be able to see through the gate and estimate how long it takes for the shutter or aperture to close off.

I've tried that with no film and looked in the viewfinder and saw that the light meter goes all the way to the underexposure side, so I guess it closes all the way.
