Cleaning Mildew from Super 8 Film

Post by Ande »

Does anyone have any advice on how to clean Super 8 film? Some of it has mildew, but I'd rather clean it myself.
Maybe there's a cleaning solution or something?

Try Neumade (sp?). You can find it here:

Good luck.

Mildew cleaning

Post by David M. Leugers »

Last winter I successfully renewed about 20 50ft rolls of Kodachrome shot in 1964-65 that had been stored since then wrapped in newspaper in an old shoe box. The film was mildewed, curled and fairly brittle. I carefully wiped the film between two sheets of Webril wipes soaked with FilmRenew. Then I placed the film in a 400ft 35mm Kodak film can submerged in FilmRenew for several weeks. The film came out perfectly clean, pliable and made some great transfers of almost lost footage of my friend's first year of life. Film Renew is sold by Urbanski and others. It worked for me and I use it alot.
