I've posted a mono Nagra sound recording sample at the link below.

I'm interested in hearing your reactions. It seems like analog sound capture is still one of the best ways to record, although it's certainly not the best way to archive. Digital technologies complement analog.

Hi,
I know even less about sound-recording than I do about movie-making... so all of my questions are "stupid"! Nevertheless, I'll ask away in hopes of learning something. Does the Nagra E record in mono... as opposed to stereo? If so, is this because it's an older model that predates stereo technology or are monotone recorders still being manufactured? If mono-recorders are still manufactured... why is that?

First, I have to say I'm not an expert on Nagras. I just happen to know someone who made a record with one. Later this summer we plan to use it on our super 8 project. I do know that the "E" in Nagra e stands for economy and that it is a single speed, single mic recorder that was first manufactured in 1976. This is information found at the Nagra website. Based on my reading of that site, it appears the mono nagra e is still in production. I think Sykes paid 350.USD for his off ebay. The mic he used probably cost twice that.
Many Musicians still desire the mono sound
The Nagra e only records in mono.
