A funny thing happened on the way to the theatre today...

Post by thebrowniecameraguy »

I meant movie theater sorry.

I was in line for Terminal the day after it opened. The theater I went into was opposite/adjacent to the theater Harry Potter 3 was playing in. This guy obviously had a video camera with him!!!!!

I knew people tried to record movies like that, but I had never seen it before.

So, I searched the internet/kazaa and found a recorded copy of Harry Potter 3.

I downloaded about 10 mins of it to see what the quality was like.

It really sucked, and whats worse is that the camera must not have filmed at the same speed as the movie. The image gets jumpy when the movie pans and moves from scene to scene.

Interesting, why do people do this?

Cheers,
Jordan

Beats me. There are times I've checked out downloadable films, but never do they have the quality I demand so I gave up on it. Even if the quality is there, I would still prefer a method of legally posting a movie to my computer via the internet. (My computer is the heart of a media center, running DVD, PVR, sat radio, and the sat TV)

Go to Vietnam, Thailand or any other third world nation and you can find DVDs of any movie while it is still showing complete with menus and all sorts of extras. I got the first two Harry Potter movies like this. I got them from Vietnam for 50 US cents. They look great. My friends have hundreds of these DVDs and they play without any problem on an NTSC DVD player.

Good Luck

These are kids who want to share the films through p2p in mp4. Good quality is not expected. Their purpose is to just to have someone watch the movie for free.

Got a good deal there. In Malaysia and Philippines, they are selling for about US$2.00. These are recorded in VCD format although the new ones coming out are now in dual layer DVD with exactly the same quality as the original.

Fineprint: I am not advocating buying illegal DVD copies!

well a couple weeks ago I went to this flea market.. it's actually a gipsy market, dunno how you guys call it over there.. There were at least 5 stands selling pirated DVD's, selling movies that aren't even out in theaters over here.. This market is moderately policed and I saw at least 4 agents standing by these stands.. crazy..

And I don't live in a third world country.. supposedly :D

btw, they go for 3-5 euros..

I definitely prefer original DVD´s with nice cover printing (not cheap photocopies), good picture quality and perfect sound.

I hate that mindless pirates that want every new movie cheap and consume it like junk food.

I wonder how they would react if they´re writing books, making movies or do some other kind of art themselves and next to them is someone selling their creative work for almost nothing - and they don´t even get a penny for their work.

The DVDs I got from Vietnam are great quality(They are not VCDs either). They look exactly like the ones you would buy in the USA. They have full menus and they have the printing on the DVD that is the same as the one you buy in the USA even the same cover art on the packaging....Except they were 50 cents instead of 25 dollars.

I am not advocating illegal activity I am simply stating that there are excellent copies out there for a fraction of the price.

Good Luck

i especially want the pirate copies. the reason the copies suck may
be the fact they're on cdrom (700mb) . the movies i download on
kazaa are bad so they can be small files. i download the sopranos
episodes the same week they're aired. i could subscribe to hbo , but
then i'd ignore the hollyweird crap and just check out the Sopranos.
i could just as easily go to a bar to watch the show, but i don't
like to reek of cigarette smoke. as popeye sez, What's Gotta be's
Gonna' be.
i have pirate copies of dvd's on xvid avi cd . if anyone's intetrested. ten cents apiece
plus s.a.s.e. to cover the cost of my end. that's the way it should
oughta' be + how it's gonna be.
