Telecine, improved...
Hello,
I improved my webcam-telecine sytem.
There is now a special website about the subject:
http://users.telenet.be/ho-slotcars/s8_index.htm
Sorry, only in Dutch, but with lots of pictures, filmframes
and example-movies.
I hope you like it!
Fred.

Jean,
I'm happy you appreciate the site!
Do you have films, made with one of your beautiful Beaulieu-cameras?
I would be happy to transfer one.... (a short one)

Popups

I checked out your website and I really like the way the window pops up when you click on one of the example movies. How did you do that?
Thanks.
Kurt
The site is written in pure HTML, with notepad. The pop up window is a small Java-script. In the popup, another HTML-page opens. You can right-click on all the pages, to see the source-code. If you right-click in the popup (not in the videoscreen), you see the source-code of that page.
By the way, are the clips loading fast, and is the quality good?
Fred.

Well, I don't read Dutch but it looks like you've done a great job!
Few questions: What is the resolution of the Phillips camera that you are using? I understand that it is formatted at 720x576 for PAL but do you have any stats on the actual resolution of the chip, itself? I'm just curious because, here in the states, all the inexpensive board cameras are pretty much limited to about 320 lines, even though they are formated for 720x480 for NTSC. I had prototyped a unit very much like yours, where it just "plugs-in" to the lens port. But the lower resolution of the image made me abandon it so I was just wondering what your resolution ended up being with the particular chip you settled on.
Also, I found that a "plug-in" type of CCD/lens set up was problematic if changing between super 8 and regular 8, since it didn't allow for easy lateral repositioning and refocusing of the image. However, I really like the controls for the camera being on the computer. That's pretty slick and something I've never encountered in CCD board cameras. I'll have to look into it a bit more.
Again, looks like a terrific job.

Resolution Webcam
Hi Roger!
Thanks for your comments and appreciation!
The Philips (it must be the ToUcam Pro!) has a Sony 1/4" CCD:
the ICX098BQ.
Here is the datasheet:
http://www.sony.co.jp/~semicon/english/ ... 804158.pdf
As far as I can judge, it is about 640x480 'real' pixels.
As you see on the site, I am not using the Philips software for taking
the pictures, only for adjustment. The pictures are taken with a good
screenshot program: MWSnap. With this program, I am able to change the
aspect ratio, and the quality of the Jpeg-pictures is very good.
The original pictures are the same size as on the website, but with
less compression, and 96DPI. (about 200kb/each).
Then I make an uncompressed AVI, with the same size: about 630x460 pixels (it depends) and a framerate of 15/sec. This is my master.
I re-arrange all the seperate scenes with Magix to one Mpeg4, suitable to play on DVD.
But I keep the originals....
For regular-8 there is indeed a problem: The Eumig is only Super and Single-8. I'm thinking about a second machine, for Regular-8....
I have here a few regular-8 films from...1958 (nice cars on it)
Fred.

Very nice site and well designed too.
Should get these Slot-car fans of this forum of some days ago going too.
I wonder if there are Faller slot cars in the US as well?
VW Vans and other civies.

The Dutch guy
Hi Super8'slotcar'man!super8man wrote: Yep, super 8 and slot cars. Seems me and the Dutch guy have a thing or two in common!

The Dutch guy is actually the Belgian, or better, the Flemish guy.
Belgium is a very small country, split in two parts: a Flemish and a French part. The Flemish is like Dutch, but with another accent, like USA-English and UK-English. Our neighbours are the real Dutch people: Holland.
SuperFred
Re: Resolution Webcam
There is also the Philips ToUCam Pro II. I wish these have a firewire connection to the PC, not USB. I am not sure if Pro II supports USB 2.VideoFred wrote:Hi Roger!

Why do not you use the Eumig Dual 824 or the Dual Mark M or even the very nice Dual Mark DL?For regular-8 there is indeed a problem: The Eumig is only Super and Single-8. I'm thinking about a second machine, for Regular-8....

I have one question for you - what lens are you using in front of the projector? I do not think you are using a projection lens at all.

I'm really really impressed and it makes me want to attempt it myself - the results you got were fantastic.
There was a similar thread here too about using a Proscope - might be possible to combine the two set ups
