Blue Streaks from Fairlawn (Dwaynes?) AGAIN!

This time it was from my Canon DS8 on K25, which is especially sad because it's irreplacable! 1st time from that camera. But I had this happen with a K40 Super 8 cartridge from my Nizo about a month ago. That time they slipped in a note that said, "you must have a problem with your camera." This time, no note.

What goes wrong with the process to create this? Has anyone successfully gotten a new roll/processing from Kodak when they complained? When I posted on here before, I got some notes that said the static thing is unlikely and it's more likely a lab problem. Opinions? Similar experiences? Solutions?

About a month ago, I had a few small blue streaks toward the end of a roll of K40 that came from Dwaynes (thru Wal Mart). It was only about 2 seconds of film total, so I wasn't very concerned. The film was shot using a Canon 814 AutoZoom, which has a nice smooth, clean gate.

It seems to me that intermittent streaks would likely be caused at the lab, and constant streaks are probably caused by the camera or cartridge.

In May of this year, had seven carts of K-40 developed using the PK59 mailers. After I digitized the film with the workprinter, and I was editing it in iMovie, I found a blue streak that lasted several frames. It was almost not visible when projected. I shot all of the film with a Canon 1014XL-S.

For this film, it is a non issue for me. I would get concerned if it lasted longer.

I had this happen about a month ago also, with some K40 super 8mm developed via D'Waynes/Walmart.

Only, my blue streaks lasted the entire 50'!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only explanation I was able to get was me searching the forums to figure out how it happened.
The explanation I found here was static sparks on the camera frame.

But, no explanation from D'Waynes.

Has anyone had this happen with DR8, DS8, or 16mm? Maybe it has something to do with improperly loaded K40 S8 cartridges.

i have been shooting k40 since '73
99% OF THE TIME ITS CAUSED BY THE LAB SCRATCHING THE FIRST LAYER OF EMULSION DURING PROCESSING. GETTING THE LAB TO ADMIT TO IT IS ANOTHER MATTER.
PS IT'S NOT CORRECTABLE ON THE FILM

I have never had a blue streak problem with the over 10,000' of regular 8mm that I have shot. All K25 and K40, and EKT 125.

I have not shot as much film as you have. But I would also say I have never seen a blue streak if it were not for looking at each frame of film in my computer. And even then it was noting to write home about.

The reason I say this, I am constantly watching all the film I have shot. I have a pretty good photographic memory. I remember the camera I used to shoot the film, the film type*(easy one there), the conditions and the camera settings. I am really trying to teach myself as much as possible about mis-takes, good takes etc... I dont really use notes since I have a good memory.

But, like I said I really have not ever noticed any blue streaks in the regular 8mm film I have shot. But, with super 8mm, of which I have only shot 7 carts. 5 k40 and 2 tri x. 2 of the 5 K40 have the blue streaks.

I had about three rolls from wallymart come back with major major blue streaking through about 1/3 of each film. Obviously, it was the processing.

No matter, I continue to use the service and can't complain...I am sure they make mistakes just like everyone else...I am more glad that super 8 is still processed by wallymart than the few mistakes I get every so often.

I remember even sending it directly to Fuji arizona gave me back problem films at times too.

Funny thing is, never had a problem from switzerland but I won't pay double the price and triple the wait for that to happen.

YUP! i had the same blue streaks over a roll about 6 weeks ago. it was just goofing around footage so i wasn't mad.. but i sent out 7 very important rolls yesterday, i hope this is an isolated incident.. otherwise i'm screwed.

Ditto. I had the same problems with some of the K-40 that I shot for Sanctuary . As I've stated in previous posts, its the junkshow processing on Dwayne's part. Not that I want them to close down, (then we're all really screwed for K40), but it just sucks to see this lack of attention to detail on any labs part. Sure would be nice if Forde Labs did K40....

I may be nuts (it wouldn't be the first time it's been suggested), but it seems to me we had a lot of complaints about this problem at just about this time last year, and it got quiet going into the Fall.

What is it:

1) Film shot at hotter ambient temperatures?
2) The Quality manager at Dwayne's goes on vacation?

I only had blue streaking once: 1 Roll Kodachrome-40, shot July 4th, 2003, processed at Dwayne's the following week. The second roll I started that same day (same camera, same film lot, same weather conditions) wasn't finished for a few more weeks and looked great.

Has anybody seen this problem in other seasons?

Got a roll ready to go, maybe I'll hold on to it a few weeks!

Yup,
All my film was shot below freezing in the snow for the most part. The problem is not the ambient temps that it was shot under though, I'm pretty confident its junkshow processing....

Must be junkshow processing. I had 5 of my most important rolls ruined by blue streaks I guess theres no solution to the problem?
