what you need is a camera with an automatic b function - that holds open the shutter for a prolonged amount of time according to the light meter... Some nizos & eumigs have this feature- don't know about Chinons...

how could I adapt a camera to have this function? I've got a canon autozoom 814. has anyone come across diagrams etc on the web on how this could be done?

You could hand crank a Bolex H8 very slowly. However the camera must be put into a vise 8)
