Ektachrome
Anybody upset about Ektachrome being discontinued? When will be the very last day you can get it?
Kodak will cease supplying it at the end of this year. Stores may well still retain some supplies into the middle of next year.
Since the super 8 Ektachrome 7240 is likely to be replaced with 100D I'm not too disappointed...though I certainly have shot some carts of 7240 and enjoyed the stuff I think 100D will better suit me.

I was mad at first. but i quickly rolled with the changes and am excited to be shooting the new vision negetives for tungston instead. but for something to go away, of course i'd rather have it available than not.. whatever it's limitations i can find some use for 7240. so i'll keep some in the freezer for as long as i can get it developed.. and keep my fingers crossed for some better new reversals to come out.

Does not bother me - as long as the stock continues to be up dated. I was not keen on the grain or colour saturation of 7240. And even though it was more sensitive then K40, I still found it far too slow.

I'm totally pissed about it! I might calm down IF they release a faster REVERSAL tungsten film stock, in super 8 cartridge ofcourse. I have a bad feeling that they don't... So it's gonna be Kalh colour reversal film for me if I wan't shoot a faster (colour)stock than K40. Kahl is ASA 50
Or Fuji's single 8, too bad it's polyester based. I like to edit & add sound stripe to my films.

I hate that they are discontinuing a stock already too slow and replacing it with a slower stock. I want only two speeds: ASA 160 and ASA 40. My only light meter is built into my camera and only works at these speeds. Of cours, I would like to see some stocks about 5 ASA faster to compensate for my camera's light meter, which does not expose the film long enough.
Single-8 is as editable as Super 8, it just cannot work with cement splices, only tape splices. BUT it can also work with an ultrasonic splicer, which is better than either alternative and which will preserve a stripe as well as cement.Static 8 wrote:Or Fuji's single 8, too bad it's polyester based. Single-8 is sound-stripable at the time of processing for a small additional charge. I am not aware of any problem adding sound strip afterwards, but I've never done it. Is there a reason polyester cannot be sound striped by Paul's (old) machine or another supplier?
RT200N is a better alternative for low-light filming than 7240. 200 ASA and not much more grain. But I really hope we see a Super 8 200 +/- tungsten reversal from Kodak so that we have more alternatives.
Personally, I prefer to wait for K40 and R25N days rather than suffer through the grain of faster stocks. The Super 8 frame is sooo small from grainy stocks.
I just got back about 5 rolls of Ektachrome. I was pretty impressed. some fireworks, and overcast streets my girlfriend shot in Amsterdam looked great. and a band i filmed, was almost sure it would be kakka, but had it pushed 1 stop and not bad at all. i have 10 carts in the freezer that i'll use sparingly, and maybe re up more before its gone. what else can ya do?

I never shoot Kahl UT 18 (ORWO UT 18 ) 50 ASA daylight color reversal <a href="http://www.ntsearch.com/search.php?q=st ... ">stock</a>, but some <a href="http://www.ntsearch.com/search.php?q=pe ... >people</a> told me that it´s VERY grainy. The goal is that it can be developed in E-6.Static 8 wrote:I'm totally pissed about it! I´m waiting for a new low-speed T-grain Ektachrome films too. 50D, 64T wold be ideal stocks.
And of course, a new 160T.
