Just a couple of corrections here guys - focusgroup your PD150 has 1/3" chips you cannot compare it to the 2/3" chip camera and blame the tape format. In tests by the EBU/SMPTE DV25 (which is MiniDV,DVCAM, DVCPRO - they are all the exact same picture quality) came out slightly better than BetaSP and significantly better in multigenerational work as crimsonson pointed out. The artifacts you saw were more likely caused by the digital signal processor.

crimsonson MP tape is not as dense as ME tape and this is why Panasonic made DVCPRO tapes move slightly faster than DVCAM, there is no clear evidence that either format produces less or more drop-outs - I work in Mini DV and DVCAM and I have only ever seen 1 (one) dropout with DVCAM.
