Jessops telecine service

Post by bouncybabybucket »

I rang up today to get the details. They transfer Super8 at £4.70 per 50ft, and there's a £18 minimum charge. This sounds good - thing is the wont transfer it to MiniDV, they only do it to VHS.
Now I can transfer it on to miniDV myself but, it'll look crap coming from a VHS.
Also they couldn't tell me if they could transfer at 24fps.

Is it likely they do?

Urrrgg I have no film services available to me in Ireland!

that's why I'm trying to help mayself out of this.. I can't afford real pro work,, don't want to pay money to dudes filming of the wall with handheld minidv, and don't want to ship my stuff worldwide..

For new b/w stuff I consider to let andec do the telecine together with processing, k40 and my old stuff remain a challenge. But i prefer to make it myself, learn in the process, and become independent.. my own time I don't have to pay for, at least, and time I have more than money these days!
have fun!

Avoid the Jessops service.

There is a place in Birmingham (UK) who will perform full Rank transfers, either graded or not for £85 per hour session time. Obviously if you go for ungraded they will only charge for the amount of time to transfer the footage. I think minimum is half hour minimum and then in something like 15min increments.

My mother had her 1968 wedding film transferred at jessops and it is truly terrible, and basically a total wast of money. It is about 600ft long which is about £56.40 at the jessop price quoted above. I have to say that is a stupid amount of money for something that saps all the life out of the original, for not a lot less than an ungraded rank transfer.

PS. The place in Birmingham is Second City, tel. 0121 472 6641
Birmingham UK.
