Hello everybody;
I'm a movie freak who tries to shoot his own movies in dv until now.
Yesterday I suddenly felt that i must buy 2 super 8 cameras.
What is your suggestion for brand and model. Total cost must be 100$ for me... Thanx for your recommendations. 8)

Buying a camera..
Life is a film; film is a life.
I would personnaly advise Bauer's, especially the "A" or "S" series... because they're quite cheap, give excellent results, last long (like most german stuff), usually have 24fps and single frame abilities, never look old-fashioned... and can be found almost anywhere. But I'm a Bauer freak so my advice might not be as objective as one would expect

considering your price range your best choice will indeed be the Bauer cams. Like cheezy, I'm a Bauer freak too, for the same reasons. I don't believe cheezy has a lot of experience with the top of the range c series cameras. They are Bauer c900, c700, c108, c107, c Royal 10E (makro). These are all very compact, relatively silent and versatile as well, with very good lenses. The 900 and 700 are hard to get (Bauer presented them just before they closed their production of super 8 cameras in the 80's). Of the 107 are two versions: one with 24 fps and one with only (up to) 18fps. Check that before you buy, cause you want the one with 24 fps. The Royal looks the msot vintage of the all..if that is a problem...
have fun..

Thanks Paul for filling my gaps
It is true that I'm unfamiliar with the "C" series. I personaly own only "S" series but that's because I only found "S" series to buy :lol:
I recently saw footage done with an old Bauer (might be a "C" series now that I'm thinking about it) and the images were really beautiful. I think the guy hadn't paid much for it. As for myself, my first Super8 cam was a Bauer S207XL that I got on ebay for about €60. I do have a preference for the high-end Bauers but they are pretty much more expensive. In comparison, I got my S715XL for about €300 (euro is pretty much the same as dollar, nowadays)
Still, there are other cameras on the market that are cool. I know the Canon 1014XL is cool. But if you haven't already, you should try this site http://www.kolumbus.fi/puistot/
It lists and details most of the Super8 cameras ever manufactured, with some price tags and links to pictures. You got this one too: http://www.city-net.com/~fodder/s8mm/cameras.html

Guys thanx for your recommendations. I think i'm going to check out this bauer think. I heard that brand before so many times. But I really focused on buying a beaulieux (is it the right spelling) i think they re expensive for me. Also people told me not to buy a super8 because of the decreasing number of labs... What do you guys think about that. You're in Europe but here in USA they re going down...
Anyways hey paul sorry I cant'be a screenwriter. I'm deeply into videography and directing. And my lines are bad. Send me some scripts 8)

Well, Morrissey, you have to say "Beaulieu" without an "x"
And yeah, they are definitely more expensive. Way more expensive. Unless you really need to shoot specific rolls, like some 500 ASA negative Super8, need to deal with specific shutter speeds because of the studio lights your DP plans to use... Unless you are very strict on manual exposure's ease of use... Unless you need to use several different lenses with various focals... well, you don't really need a Beaulieu. But if you can spend a little more than you originally thought, try to get yourself a high-end Bauer, like the S715XL, you won't regret it. And you won't necessarily get better pictures with a Beaulieu.
I don't know a bout the labs in the US but here in europe there are many in Paris. And Super8 is kinda trendy these days around here...
