Post by Ambervision »

I have seen this projector on e-bay. Does anyone have any experience/feedback with this projector?

Thanks,

Bolex 18-5

I owned one some years ago and I think it is one of the best projectors ever built - however, it can only show silent film and at 18fps so it has its limits. The 5fps setting is a hoot as it produces flickerless (9 bladed shutter as I recall) slow motion of any footage. Solid as a rock and a real beauty. The lenses are top notch and the film handeling is superb. Another negative is the bulb is hard to find and expensive. Chambless near Atlanta can modify this projector to accept a new halogen bulb for much brighter projection and cheaper bulbs. If I had one that is a route I would take. If you shoot 18fps and don't need magnetic sound, then you would be hard pressed to find a better unit. My two cents. :)

I'll just add one thing. It is HEAVY. I assume the weight is due to a transformer inside to take care of the European/US voltage conversion. I mention this so you'll be prepared for a steep shipping charge.
