VERY simple question

Post by tgreathead »

Simple question, just curious.

Which side of the unexposed film is the emulsion on?
The dull side or the shiny side?

I did a little test and want to make sure I put the correct side of the film facing out.

Thanks in advance for the simple answer.

Dull side. With commercial film prints that have been projected a lot, the dull side can be nearly as shiny as the shiny side, but there is always a difference.

Some leaders are shiny on both sides - especially coloured ones.

there's an old trick. lick your thumb and your pointy finger, run the film between them pressed together. the side that is sticky is the emoltion side. this is a good technique, because it works in the bag too. like the previous post mentioned, sometimes it's hard to tell by looking.
