I suppose people here are capable enough to invent their own points of reference for to describe how noisy it is ( like in comparison with certain other camera's; or do I have to spell out everything for this single idiot??)

I would say that the A512 is a bit quieter than the Nizo silent cameras but not as quiet as the Canon 814 XL-S/1014 XL-S and certainly not as quiet as the Nizo sound cameras. Are you planning to shoot sync sound with the A512? I think it could be done if you construct yourself a blimp which covers the body of the camera and pads the noise. For tight indoor locations you might still pick up some noise on the audio though. If you haven't made your purchase yet, then go with one of the Nizo sound cameras (2056/3056/4080/6080). I don't know of any Super 8 cameras which are quieter.

Hope this helped!

Hi Kurt,

Thanks a lot for your info. What I like about the Bauer 512 is it's compactness. I find the high end Nizo sound cams, if not all sound cams too big. I have a barney for the Bauer Royal, which is more or less the same model; but I would like to upgrade to the A 512; because it is (looks) all plastic I thought it might be a bit quieter. I has some good soundrecording results with the royal with a directional microphone, but I was not always able to position it right in all positions.

Thanks,

Paul

Hello Paul!

I know a few people who only film with the A508 and the A512 because of their compact size. They are really nice cameras and often overlooked. They are just as good as the Nizo or Beaulieu cameras in my opinion. I actually have a nice A512 here that I would like to sell. Contact me directly if you are interested. connikurt@t-online.de

I would go for the heaviest, biggest, super 8 camera. Even the biggest super 8 camera is still easily managed, but the extra weight makes a much steadier camera when on a tripod.

Good luck,

Al

I'm expecting a bauer s715. I bought it (cheaply) with the intention to sell it (not cheaply) but may be I should keep it. Studied some pictures of it..quite an impressive lens in terms of size..maybe I should give up the ideal of compactness..it's silent and the lens should be one of the best according to some members here..and it is heavy..I think i will consider this seriously.. does the shoulder pod come with it as a standard attribute?

That's the best camera in my opinion! The Angenieux lens is just incredibly sharp and gives grain-free pictures when using K40. It is the quietest camera I've tried so far, so that should be good for you. And yes, the shoulder pod comes as a standard, as well as on the S709XL. :D
