Bolex 680 Information

Post by jcarruthers »

Hi,

Just got my hands on a Bolex 680 (and a Fujica P300 - but thats another story)

I cannot find any information what so ever on this camera!... anyone used one of these? Any good? Worth anything? Anyone got a manual for it - havent figured out what the "frame selector" dial is for yet. I picked it out of a box of about 20 Super 8 cameras - it seemed to have the best set of features. I paid 10 GBP for it.

This is my first Super 8 camera - and my first real taste of 8mm - I mucked about with a Canon 1014XLS (or something like that anyway - big black beast of a camera) last year at college - great camera - but I only shot one reel of old out-of-date russian film - so hardly a real test for it.

Can't wait to put some colour film through my new camera....

did you purchase camera in southeast london?
your bolex 680 was made by chinon i think around 1977-80.You metioned frame rate are they 1,9,18,24,45. this is the running speed of the camera, put a test film thru the camera at 18 fps, cheapest option is in date kodachrome 40.
Make sure the exposure meter is working.

Hi, buy your bolex from an old camera shop in catford by any chance!!! if so the seller may have thrown in some long out of date kodachrome 2....do not use it,you cannot get it processed any more...
The results should be ok providing the camera is running ok and the exposure meter is working. Results wont be as good as a canon 1014xls.....
Have you used a cine camera before?
Keep the lens on wide angle, keep your finger off the zoom.
Dont forget,if you are using kodachrome 40,you will need good lighting, this film is not as sensitive as video in low light.
