What a blast. Really, anyone that can nail the right exposure on pasty faced Joplin in a spot light from 50 yards out sans benefit of a spot meter can light my Kodachrome movies any time. Unbelievable that the night stuff was shot on Kodachrome.

Also, it mentioned on the website that it was shot on regular 8mm Kodachrome 40? Not being an expert on regular 8mm, was there a Kodachrome 40 in that guage? I was under the impression that K40 was a super 8 stock only. If-so-fact-o then the shots of Joplin and other night time performances are even more incredible.

And dig those blacks. Talk about extended D-max. Nothing produces an inky black like Kodachrome.

Of course you know this, but K40 is also available in 16mm.

Kodak made K40 for Double 8mm. My Keystone Double 8mm camera has a setting for 40 ASA film and the manual suggests using K40 for "interior shots."

Not what you usually hear today, huh?

As for the sound, I wonder if it was recorded in the camera on mag-striped film or was it recorded separately and synched up later? Pretty good quality, either way.

tfunch24 according to the site:

The sound was recorded on two audio cassettes in an early Sony portable

Cassette-Corder.

Thanks for the info.

Can anyone tell if that footage was synched? I don't think so. I only looked at the Janis Joplin and the Rain clip and it's really hard from them if they were synched or not.

I believe I actually have a very expired(70's?) roll of unexposed K40 double8mm sitting around here somewhere, I recieved it with a super8 camera I bought on ebay. I wonder if kodak would still honor the paid processing on it...... :-)
