Does somebody know how i can get this done to a Nizo Pro? Or knows were I can get it done?
i've done it on a nizo 800 and a canon 1014. The nizo gate has two small parts mounted with coil springs on the bottom of the gate. If you're not very careful when you take out the gate after loosen the screws, you take the risk of loosing them, they are very small and not fixed. But it can be done with a little patience. The canon gate is very easy to modify no loose stuff.Does somebody know how i can get this done to a Nizo Pro? Or knows were I can get it done?

these frames were filmed with my Chinon 60 SMR XL with its gate enlarged (with a needle file and the help of a microscophe). the aspect ratio changes from 1:1,33 to 1: 1,45.

I just want to confirm what Thomas is saying here. If you are removing the gate of your Nizo's, watch for those springs. Aside from the risk of losing them, (and not knowing how to reassemble them when re-attaching the gate), there is the risk that they will land inside the camera which could cause real trouble.tbruegg wrote: The nizo gate has two small parts mounted with coil springs on the bottom of the gate. Mitch Perkins here in Toronto, the DOP on Sleep Always, has converted many Nizo's and he only charges $50.

I am interested in modifying three cameras from 1.33 to 1.76 aspect ratio. Is that possible? or is 1.65 the maximum you can do and then one can mask to 1.76? The cameras are a Zeiss Ikon G S8 (or MS811 - can't make my mind), a Nizo 6080, and a Nikon R10 (when I get one).

It would seem that with my dremel and a spare camera (I have one I may be able to butcher) I might be able to do some damage. I will have to consider this option!
I am already stoked that I will be able to do some cropping with the workprinter and change the aspect ratio a bit.

Any aspect ratio is possible: it's achieved in the masking during transfer. The maximum width of the frame is determined by the film itself, and then the height, which determines the ratio, is the variable you can control most easily. The higher the aspect ratio, the more cropping that will be done from the top and/or the bottom, so it's a trade-off. I don't know the precise ratio of the full 8mm (wide) frame but it's probably about 1.66. We've always masked it down to about 1.85 because it's common and gives a little bit of flexibility for raising or lowering the frame line a little. Anything beyond 1.66 has no value in terms of the grain getting tighter and so on and it simply becomes a matter of preference.Lunar07 wrote: I am interested in modifying three cameras from 1.33 to 1.76 aspect ratio. I never found the amount of frame gained to be worth the effort of converting the equipment. But that's just me.
I also think the name is kind of silly.

jup, exactly my feelngs.. was lucky to find the springs of the 6056 again and took me about 10 minutes of fiddling around (and cursing) to get them back after the modifications.. i really dont think the effort is high, it's just that you never know if the lens will have enough coverage... and jup, the name is silly ;)
