I recently acquired an Angeneiux 12-120 which is a Bolex H16 RX-type lens. I'd like to use this lens with my Beaulieu 4008 ZMII super 8 camera, but I've read on this message board and elsewhere that the Bolex RX-type lenses, because of backfocus and other issues, don't work particularly well with Beaulieu super 8 cameras. Regardless of this, I attached the Angenieux 12-120 to my Beaulieu 4008 ZMII, and although I haven't yet filmed with this lens, it seems to work fine as a medium to ultra-telephoto lens with my Beaulieu super 8 camera. I've noticed that subjects that should focus at infinity are actually in focus when the lens is set slightly shy of infinity, but I usually focus by eye so this isn't a big deal to me. I have read, however, that because this lens was made to be used with a beam-splitter camera (as opposed to a mirror reflex like a Beaulieu where all of the light coming through the lens hits the film), the aperture settings on this lens have been calibrated for use with a beam-splitter camera. Does this then mean that if, for example, I set the lens to f/4, the aperture will actually be a little more open than f/4 on account of the fact that the lens has been calibrated for use with a beam-splitter camera, in which case more light is needed through the lens for proper exposure? I've read that this is the case, however I've also read that the aperture difference is so small that it's pretty much negligible if the lens is being used with a mirror reflex camera. I'd really appreciate if someone could confirm this, correct me if i'm wrong, or just add any other information that would be helpful with respect to using the Bolex RX-type lens with a Beaulieu super 8 camera.
Thanks!
