duh, you asked if it was possible and if it was expensive. how's that different from somebody offering you a free cart and 4k scan? well, you tell me. ;-)boohoo wrote:Whats the difference

boohoo wrote:I saw a post earlier about loading other types of film into super 8 carts. Is this expensive? Are there any advantages or disadvantages of loading cheap 35mm film, cutting it and loading into a cart. For example lucky brand film from china. I ask because in bulk this film is very inexpensive and has a relativley white range of color, b&w, slide and print film. I am asking out of curiosity and have never had much experience doing this type stuff.
I re-read his intial post and then looked up his past posts, and it looks to me like sombody who's had a few pints and a good laugh. If not, my apologies.
I reads like he's got the film, is going to send a cart (or two) to some people, and then people will send it back to him and he'll develop it(somewhere) and then transfer it himself on 4k (at some top end facility he has access to)! And, looking at his past posts, he's planning to put it all together into some kind of "potential of super 8 using custom cut filmstocks dvd". I'd like to see such a compilation dvd, but I'd be hard-pressed to pay much for it.
I'm at a complete loss as to what will be gained for him out of an expensive exercise like that if he doesn't have a business or service to promote, but more power to him!

Hello,
I share the opinion that the offer is unclear, and that we need more details to think that this is a serious opportunity to work with these new stocks in s8. (anyway it seems to be a fact that Kodak will be replacing the Vision 200T in s8 with the xx17).
Your project sounds interesting, because you plan to scan to data the emultions, and therefore it will be very easy for you to make then, a data to film process and get a very decent s8 digital blow up.
If more information is provided, and if I can stay at least with one cart (vision2 100T) for my own purpose, I would be interested to join your project.
I can offer to shoot with Carl Zeiss lens and pressure plate equipment.
Here in Chile, there is also a lot of interesting imagery potential. If you are interested, we can define more precisely what kind of imagery you are looking for.
Finally as cine technician I do already have experience on DI process. (2k) which can be useful if you also want to test chroma key and composite capability of the new xx12 (which have finer grain that xx45).
By the way... I am curious how you are planning to scan the reversal material ? As a ¨standard¨ way, negative material is usually scanned
@ 10 bit log, but this may not be correct for reversal.
Regards,
Daniel Henriquez Ilic

Would love to get some of the Vison 5212 and the 5285.
I am sure we could get some great action sport shots and some nice timelapses
Alan what and when is the best way to reach you.

alan doyles super 8 offer
i am a cameraman based in london, i probably shoot more super 8 and 16mm,than most ...
you can choose to believe me or not frankly i am not that concerned..
i have been shooting 8mm for 15 years and have never been a fan of the company super 8 sound- pro 8...
i was the first person to bring surveillance film kodak 93 200asa neg, into europe 8 years ago.
my plan is simple, instead of talking and writing and moaning about things
connected with this format i am doing something!
in 6-8 weeks i will have samples of the stocks listed earlier in s8.
i will then choose who to give stock to.
i will then get the stock back, get it processed and get some scanned at
high def some at 2k and the best images at 4k.
the cintel millenium telecine machine with s8 gate will be at nab film production show in las vegas next week.
at the moment i cannot tell you why i am doing this, but all i will say is this: the format can only survive, through increased sales.
quality from film manufacture inc dirt and stability, processing telecine all need big improvements.. look at pro 8s company showreel, they may earn
lots of cash but it has not been spent on th reel..
keep your ideas about locations coming in..
the best thing will be extremes vision 2 500asa in an interesting low light location, then vision 100 neg and ektachrome 100d in beautiful light.
no boring plus or minus colour charts, just really great images.
i am paying for everything, you will get a copy on dvd and any other format you need..
synics please don't bother with if's or buts, at least i am doing something!
thanks alan

Re: alan doyles super 8 offer
all people did was asking for more info. do you have a problem with that? how were we supposed to guess who you were and how valid your offer was? i wasn't one of the sceptics, but completely understand them...alan doyle wrote:synics please don't bother with if's or buts, at least i am doing something!

Hello,
I suppose Alan Doyle is talking about Cintel Millennium II telecine, which is the evolution of the excelent technology of ITK Millennium telecine.
As far as I know, the interesting thing is that the creator of Millennium have been envolved in the evolution of this new telecine in colaboration with the team from Cintel.
The main characteristics are that is a multiformat telecine from 8mm to IMAX, flying spot technology with scanning resolution up to data 4k in any format, and that the light of CRT is white and not green as in flying spot telecine like standard Ursa.
Anyway this machine will be present in IBC exhibit in september 2004 in Amsterdam.
Best Regards,
Daniel
